Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 Thoughts that the Leafs and Habs are among the two Canadian teams he has met with and that he is expected to make a decision this week.

I'd be more interested in Bigplakov :sarcasm:

Just a reminder that we have limited contract spots, so I'm not so sure that one is anything more than an agent doing his job.

If Hughes is interested, he will make room and there are options to do so.

- Let Ylonen/Norlinder/Cederqvist walk
- A D is likely to be traded
- Trade an AHL player who doesn't have a future here like Kidney/Trudeau/Perreault for future considerations

Then maybe even someone is willing to take Armia this summer given he played well to end the season and only has one year left on his deal.

I'd rather play Armia than some unkown Russian who has never played with the club. He's not a diamond in the rough. Just some guy looking around for a job.

If Ylonen/Norlinder/etc.. are already counted out and replaced by vets like we think they will be, it still does not leave room for experiments like this one, unless he joins Laval?

The boys are looking for scoring........interesting.
Diamond in the rough, or just a nugget in the rough??
A nugget more than likely. Highly doubt KH is interested. The guy scored 31 goals but only 16 assists. This is not sustainable. Been there done that. I've seen this kind of players come and go all the time. Good goal scorers are good players and even if they're not talented playmakers they'll still get their fair share of assists.

Is he really better those AHLer though ? Not sure
It's crazy the amount of our fans who don't get we have no room. We need to create room not the opposite.

This is already 6 spots reserved for kids who imo project as solid top 9 NHL player. On top of that we have a bunch of interesting prospects who will make their AHL debut next season in Beck, Mesar, Tuch. Kapanen and Xhekaj will likely follow the season after.

On top of that we will likely draft a forward with our 5th overall pick this summer. We are kind of stuck with Anderson and Gallagher for now. So total that 6 spots reserved for the kids listed above. One spot probably reserved for our 5th overall and two spots reserved for Anderson and Gallagher. So that's 9 already.

If we can land an elite player at the beginning of his prime (26) then fine we'll make room for him but we don't have the room for gamble like Maxim Tsyplakov it would be a waste of time for no reason. Unless KH is 100% convinced this guy is a late bloomer and will become someone he should pass.

I’m not even sure he would be better those guys…

Those guys number would be great in the KHL too.. We should go after real NHLer who play physical
There’s people still whining that the Habs didn’t draft Michkov. This guy had more points than him. I’d rather give him a shot than the plugs I’ve listed.

Room? There’s plenty of room for bottom 6ers on this team. We played Colin White 20 games and he hasn’t had a point in two years.

Signing Tsyplakov doesn't mean he will play in the nhl.

Friedman just said the habs are interested and interviewed him.

Why would you ‘’highly doubt’’ they are interested.

I don't think there's much there but we're talking about 6 legitimate top 9 players on the team at the moment. Gallagher and Anderson blow, and should be on the 4th line. No other forward prospect is making the team next year, so why not take a 1 year flyer on the guy?

It's not like we're signing him for 8 years, we can take a chance for a year and it's 0 risk.

It’s crazy that people are against this move

We have a chance at a big 25 year old that was productive in a professional league, for FREE

“but but Jesse Ylonen. Who will we send out in a shootout to miss the net 😭😭😭

We have 38 players under contract for next season as of now, which means we have 12 available contracts remaining with no one significant to re-sign other than Xhekaj. Plenty of room to take a gamble on a one year deal if our hockey dept likes the guy.

It's *Eliotte is pushing agents agendas for a living SZN*

*Toronto and Montreal are interested in my client, amongst 12 others* :thumbu:

We just went through a season where we saw Armia, Evans, Gallagher and Anderson spend time in our top six. Aside from Roy, our next best offensive prospects are likely another year away from playing in the NHL.

Our NHL depth sucks, making a no risk signing like this makes sense at this point. If he sucks, who cares. In the chance he actually succeeds, we added another asset for free.
