MSL said he knows Dach would work well on Suzuki’s wing. He’s more interested in information gathering.

Also, I find that in preseason lines combos may not be a great predictor, but often we see pairings up front that stick.

Caufield - Suzuki- Monahan
Slaf - Dach - Ylonen
RHP
- Newhook - Anderson
Pearson - Evans - Gallagher
/ Pezz , Armia
This has my agreement except that Ylonen spot. I would try Roy instead in preseason and see what happens. If it works, why not go for it and waive Pez. No loss there really.

This is the basic structure I'm seeing emerge.

Caufield - Suzuki - _______
Slaf - Dach - ________
Anderson - Newhook - ________

I think RHP would be great for either Slaf or Anderson, Monahan works well with Suzuki and Caufield. Then you have either Pearson or Ylonen fir the last top 9 spot. I was thinking Ylonen's speed may work well with Newhook and Anderson. Either way he has to prove to be more effective overall than Gallagher and Pearson to get into the top 9 - and than Armia to stay out of the pressbox.

I see a new set of lines has since been rolled out for practice today - Gallagher with Evans.

I think it’s time to see what Ylonen can bring offensively in the top 9. Part of their information gathering.

Makes sense. Italics were maybes.

Could have gone with either option. Decided to keep them on their preferred side - but that’s a secondary concern after chemistry.

A Hunch - Dach and Slaf were really good together. RHP relatively quiet. JY will get his chance there in the preseason.

Ylonen might need the right linemates. I didn't like him with Suzuki and Caufield last year. I did like him with Gally and Evan's actually. That could be a 4th line that's very much like a 3rd line. He has the wheels to keep up with Newhook and Anderson, so I'd at least like to see that tried. Same for Dach and Slaf. I could see Ylonen benefitingbfrom being set up for one-timers by Dach.

I don't have anything against Ylonen but he seems like the most spare part we have that isn't a hard contract to move. Wouldn't mind moving him to help decongest the logjam

Fully healthy lines:

Caufield - Suzuki - Monahan
Slaf - Dach - RHP
Dvorak - Newhook - Anderson
Gallagher - Evans - Ylonen

Maybe Dvorak and Monahan swap places.

I really really love the Slaf - Dach - Newhook line.

First line should be Caufield - Suzuki - Monahan. They're great together.

Put Anderson and RHP on the third line.

Evans is your 3rd centre?

Who's your 4th centre?

Heineman, Barron, Norlinder in AHL. Norlinder is kicking at the door but hasn't broken it yet, Barron hasn't looked good defensively and Heineman mostly had a mediocre showing except towards the end. Rather have Lindstrom as 7D and the other older forward scrubs than those guys on the sidelines or getting less reps. I feel like Monahan is the best player for Caufield and Suzuki, but he's also useful at 3C too, he'd get better trade value showcased as winger on 1st line, but might not be able to play big minutes and stay healthy. Primeau waived or traded, otherwise we'll have to send one of the forwards like Ylonen/Armia/Pearson on waivers.

RHP/Newhook interchangeable on first and second lines, but I think that RHP is a good grinder and better suited to dig for pucks for Caufield and Suzuki, whereas big Dach and Slafkovsky can insulate Newhook a bit.

Expecting Gallagher to improve throughout the season, if not then he'll be the bench warmer.

I like those lines, I just don't want Dvo or Evan's as our 3c. Either could be good as the last winger in the top 9 though, imo.

So imo one of Newhook or Monahan should be 3c.

I think the Habs will acquire couple extra firsts this season. Probably by trading Monahan and renting caproom out. Then flip those picks for another Dach type. A top 6 forward.

Maybe the goalie also. If the think Dobes, Miller or Fowler is the future. Sign a vet UFA netminder over the summer. Somebody to be #1 goalie for couple of years.

Probably draft Mews. He looked good in Hlinka Gretzky.

They will most likely want to showcase Monahan to try to get assets at the deadline. He will be playing in the first two lines IMO.

My opening game lineup would be:

Caufield - Suzuki - RHP
Newhook - Dach - Slafkovsky
Anderson - Monahan - Gallagher
Pearson - Evans - Ylonen

Matheson - Savard
Guhle - Barron
Harris - Xhekaj

However, I think its actually going to be Kovacevic with Guhle, and Barron will be scratched for game 1

MSL said he knows Dach would work well on Suzuki’s wing. He’s more interested in information gathering.

Also, I find that in preseason lines combos may not be a great predictor, but often we see pairings up front that stick.

Caufield - Suzuki- Monahan
Slaf - Dach - Ylonen
RHP
- Newhook - Anderson
Pearson - Evans - Gallagher
/ Pezz , Armia
I have but only one little tweak:

Slaf - Dach - Roy

Which would push Ylonen into Armia's place now that he has been sent down.

And I have an itchy feeling Heinemen could be packaged in a forthcoming deal. Even more so if Monahan sticks around and RHP continues where he left off.

Post-Dach injury, this is what I would try to balance the lines:

RHP-Suzuki-Caufield
Slafkovsky-Monahan-Ylonen
Pearson-Newhook-Anderson
Pezzetta-Evans-Gallagher

When Dvorak returns, option 1:
Dvorak moves to 3C, Newhook moves left, and Pearson replaces Pezzetta

Option 2:
Dvorak replaces RHP who moves to line 3LW, and Pearson replaces Pezzetta

I like.

It would be great if This worked out. Monahan would be great mentor for Slaf and Ylonen. Pesrson may provide stability for Newhook and Anderson. If he's too slow to keep up with speed demons Newhook and Anderson, we could try swaping Pearson and fast Ylonen.

When Dvo comes back it would be great if he could produce next to Nick and Cole. That would free up RHP to help either Slaf or Anderson.
