Is Dean MacDonald heavily invested in COVID vaccine maker stock, or is it protective mask producers?

I guess for him it's worth taking on a shot on the chance the city may want to off load the expense.

As the world heads into a global depression, money losing stadiums are going to be low in city priorities. Their own incompetence basically turned the rink into a $2 million annual loss.

One dude owns 2 teams in one league?

Yes. Dean MacDonald owns both the Newfoundland Growlers and the not-yet-confirmed-by-the-league expansion team in Trois-Rivières.

It is not uncommon in minor league hockey. There have been several owners in the ECHL, CHL, and other leagues that own more than one team in the league.

... COVID might be just the time to resolve this issue once and for all and end the city's incompetence.
On further consideration ... Wouldn't the city selling the arena simply give them more time & money to spread their municipal incompetence around to other projects?

Mile One Centre is built into the side of a hill, with the waterfront two blocks downhill from it and buildings in between (including the St. John's Convention Center attached by pedestrian bridge to the arena). City Hall on one side, multistory office buildings on the other. Residential area on top of the hill. A pretty densely packed part of downtown. I suppose Mr. MacDonald could buy up the few blocks downhill & redevelop the area, pending St. John's municipal approval.

Ha, maybe not. St. John's Sports & Entertainment is a very special group.

think Portland and the squabbles around a lease in the midst of a renovation, JMC..... That's how bad the disconnect is between SJSE which almost cost them the Growlers to begin with before they got started, that's why the County trustees here finally were given the boot in favor of Spectra, the added advantage of having a tenant that's the same as the operator of an arena, one that MacDonald likely doesn't have the time/effort to deal with again.....

it's why the Leafs aka MLSE left the province when it did....
