Will Pavelec still be playing in this game or are they resting him and going with Stepanek tonight ?

Czech rep.
We won't play 100% because this game is essentially pointless from our perspective. So I guess the Germans will win the game, or we win in OT/shootout.

Germany don't want to face Canada with the next game. Germany needs a W or Russia has to lose

Czech probably roster:

Štěpánek
K. Rachůnek, Němec, Židlický, Škoula, Krajíček, Čáslava

Jágr, Plekanec, Průcha
Havlát, Eliáš, Červenka
Voráček, Marek, Rolinek
Frolík, Novotný, Hubáček.

So no Michalek today. (Milan and Zbynek are out)

Getting into overtime would be enough to stay ahead of Russia.

To be more exact: If Russia wins straight, we need a point to be in 2nd place, if we lose we end up 4th. If Russia wins in overtime/shootout we have secured 3rd place and could reach second by winning in any way. If Finland wins in overtime we have secured 3rd place and would need a regulation win to pass Finland as well. If Finland wins in regulation we are 3rd no matter what, though getting a point would put as ahead of Norway in the overall standings, which would be good.

Endras said that he will start, but Krupp hasn't said anything yet.

I heard it is confirmed ... now.

Wonder why he plays again and who will play the quarter final... Endras will get all the starts from now?

Hoping for the best, for Germany.

A question for the Czech Republic fans to answer; How has Plekanec and Jagr looked as a duo?

Endras just has to play in the quarters. It's one thing to go with someone else when you know that you have another game - and I didn't really like Krupp's decision to start Zepp before the game started - but in this case there won't be another game if you lose, so you have to go with your best goalie.

With Slovakia out, the "home" team is prolly the Czechs atm..

They will play to win and play 100%, no way they risk losing the good streak they have going.

Some players might get a rest, but that won't hurt the Czechs chances all that much.

So, with Russia-Finland going to shootout, Germany has secured at least 3rd place.

A regulation win (haha, yeah right) would put us in second place and lead to a game against Norway. That would be enormous. It wouldn't be easy the way Norway has played so far, but definately preferable to playing Canada/Sweden.

Anyway, I see Germany's first regulation loss coming, though getting a point would be huge, as we would be ahead of Norway again in the overall standings.

So, the Czechs face USA in the quarters no matter what.. but what happens would they advance to the semis?
i guess they couldn't play the 2nd from their qualification group, otherwise they would have every interest in losing tonight as that would mean getting the winner of a Norway-Germany quarter.

If in the semis they play the 2nd from the other group, winning tonight they would probably get the winner of a Sweden-Germany quarter, losing tonight they would probably get the winner of a Sweden-Finland quarter.

Btw, is Zbynek Michalek supposed to be fine for the quarters?

Should be against the 2nd from the other group. At least that's how it was in the past, and I think any changes in the format only come into play next year.
