Hank can’t overcome all 3 of his skaters being significantly worse than the skaters in option 2

My heart wants to pick the Ehrhoff-Gaborik duo. Two of my favourite players from that era. But my head just shuts it down. There's no way to justify the rest of that package overall. Not with the raw skating ability and skill of that other trio.

Second group by a lot. Not very close. Only goalies favour the first group, but Markstrom can put up borderline Vezina numbers.

I actually went with the first group. I think people have forgotten how fast and how good of a goal scorer Gaborik was in his prime. Out of all of these players, he's the one I'd want the most on my 3 on 3 team.

Pominville and Ehrhoff are of course not on the same level as the other skaters in this matchup overall, but at least team A has the advantage of having two forwards on the ice. As good as Josi and Karlsson are/were, they are defenseman and not used to 1 on 1-situations with the goaltender.

Pominville is a three time 30+ goal scorer and was very much adept at picking corners behind goalies. Seriously, look at his career highlights and you'll find that 99% of his career goals came from snipes or one timers. I'm not sure if he's ever deked a goaltender other than when he went around Ray Emery in the 06 playoffs.

Karlsson > Gaborik
Stamkos > Pominville
Josi > Erh
Lund > Mark

This is not close. Don't rationalize it.

The questions isn't who the better players are. Karlsson, in his prime, was better than Gaborik. But he was certainly not a better goal scorer.

There's no doubt that team B is stronger when simply comparing players. But team A has two forwards against Markstrom, while team B has two defenseman against Lundqvist.

Team Karlsson

The gap between Ehrhoff/Josi and Gaborik/Karlsson is smaller than others have suggested but Josi/Karlsson is still the better duo and I'd rather have them in a 3 on 3 situation

On the other hand, the gap between Pominville and Stamkos is enormous and Lundqvist had some tremendous campaigns but he can't carry this team on his own
