I also member when the team has to score at a torrid pace to out score Smith's mistakes.
It wasnt just Smiths mistakes though.
This defence just isnt very good.

Ceci has pictures of somebodies wife. He was the biggest weakness going into this season
I agree although I would say both him and Nurse.
Nurse stands out for me just because he is such a drain on cap space.

Several posters were saying that you "have to start Skinner in game 2, "not starting him just says you don't believe in him"

Where are those posters now.?

Yeah, won't say a peep on it now. Several posters after game one responded that theres already been enough runway NOT to trust Skinner. He's been bad in every game in this series. Not much of a surprise is it. Skinner has now been bad in 2/3 of his career playoff starts. its monty python level on inanity.

I mean it just sucks. I would feel a lot more comfortable if Campbell sorted his mess out and was the backup. Knob is in such an impossible position. Skinner sucks I mean he has been "good" all year and not great. Silovs has been great he was great again tonight and we haven't had a great goalie in the McDavid era.

Then you have pickard. He's not a good goalie. He was the backup to skinner which says enough but he did his job.... As the backup.

Do you stick with the crappy goalie who might have a bounce back game? Or do you go to his backup who's supposed to play weak opposition regular season.

How's Rodrigue? I mean I wish we could have an AHL goalie shine for us.

Uh, between the Flames and Avs series we gave up less than three goals exactly once.
EDIT: So, I did the math for shits and giggles and Smith had a .922 over his first three round two games, including when he was pulled in game one. Skinner is at .793 after his first three games.

Smith had 3 shutouts or some shit his last playoffs run. Skinner has one in two playoffs and is getting rocked on his xGA.

At least Smith was 39 years old when he fell apart. Skinner at this stage is nowhere near good enough to be starting playoffs games. He can't handle the pressure

So, I did the math for shits and giggles and Smith stopped 76 of 83 shots in the first three games of round two in 2022, equalling a .915%

Skinner's last three games (first three of round two) he stopped 38 of 50 shots: .760%

Interesting how you’re ignoring game 1 and the Avalanche series. And let’s not forget that long bomb from Anderson.

I don't even think people should be crying about the refs. The refs will never be good in this sport they just f***ing suck plain and simple and have zero consistency. Sometimes it goes against you and sometimes it goes for you.

All the blame should be funnelled toward this awful fraud in net and the other frauds who disappear as soon as playoffs start.

I think Oilers fans are justified in bitching about the reffing though. How many holds and cross checks were uncalled against Van and then the chintzy one comes back on us?

It’s this whole mindset “it is what it is” is what created this whole game management bullshit. The blind acceptance that it’s “playoff hockey” and normalizing this shit reffing is a huge problem and it hurts us more than any other team

Actually, I DID screw up! Skinner actually has a .793 over the first three games. Smith had a .922. And I included the three goals scored on him before he was pulled in game one.

This is totally legit IMO.
Campbell is really the player that ultimately caused this problem.
A $5M dollar mistake by Ken Holland. Booby Burgers made a $5M mistake as well by hiring Holland.

The series isnt over but this team certainly isnt good enough to win a Stanley Cup.
When you have the Leagues 2 best players in their prime thats a major indictment on the GM.

It took more shots to score on Smith (a senior citizen in NHL)m terms) than it does on Skinner

God I hope we don’t see him in an Oilers jersey next year

Yeah but that happens ever f***ing game. There's no point complaining at this point. No that mindset didn't create this. The league can do whatever the f*** they want and they have. Fans complaining won't change anything.

LOL...yeah...thats what we are left with as an option.
Pretty sad.

Hey If Oilers Did something before the season started they could have found a similar player like ekholm for nurse.

Take Ekholm away from bouchard and everyone on this board would be calling for his head

Yay!. no "true softies" allowed in this game. Even if its disputed. For instance another sailing point shot that got through Skinner even though he saw it. Silovs at the other end made that stop 10 times and look easy.

The reason I'm going at these posts is your defense of the goalie is unconditional. Even while concluding he shouldn't get another start you're still using talking points defending him.

heh. maybe it me. I need more time to be reading posts that even remotely say "at least there were no true softies tonight" Thats like having a starting expectation of next to absolute zero Kelvin. ;)

I'll stop now. Damn its Sunday. I shouldn't start drinking on Sundays. heh
The “sailing point shot”, in actuality was a tipped point shot from 5 feet out while we were short a man. But you consider Nurse booting pucks past Skinner as bad goals too, so on the subject of whats a bad goal to give up and what isn’t we will never agree. You literally think anything past him is a “bad” goal.

You say I am unconditionally defending him which accuses me of being disengenious. Even though I said he let in softies in games 1-2 and hasn’t come up with enough big saves. I actually watch the goals against and try to figure out what happened instead of just spouting non-sense, that doesn’t mean it’s unconditional defence. But on the flip side, you will in one conversation admit to seeing a goal wrong, admit that it got booted in by Nurse, then in the next conversation ignore your admission and still call it a bad goal to support your narrative. So who’s being disingenuous here?

After never being so mad after a playoff win last game because of Skinner i have to come back and say it again. I literally hate Skinner and that f***ing moustache at this point. f*** you Skinner for making me try to defend you at points this year. You have the spine of a jellyfish and are the worst goalie left in the playoffs.
