Career high in... Points: Draisaitl (110 vs 80) Goals: Draisaitl (50 vs 47) Assists: Draisaitl (67 vs 36) Playoff points: Draisaitl (16 vs 6) Plus-Minus: Draisaitl (+29 vs +25) xWAR: Draisaitl (5.7 vs 5.2)

Draisaitl is just straight up the better player. When it comes playmaking ability the gap only widens.

It’s Draisaitl with or without contracts included.

Matthews if this is the level of play he carries going forward. Better goal scorer and leagues better defensively while being threat#1 on his team.

As an oilers fan, the way Matthews has played this season has closed the gap and made this a legit debate. With the exception of the first couple months Matthews has been the better player this season.
Agreed (as a fellow Oilers fan).

Is Matthews the better player? This year, yes.

The reason why I picked Draisaitl? I'd rather a 100+ point player that plays the full season than the slightly better player that misses 20 games a year.

Who would that be? This is just blatant lying, and you know it.

For his 6-year career, Matthews has played in 91% of possible games, or 75 games per 82 game season. That's really skewed by years 2 and 3 however, and he has barely missed time otherwise. Over the past 3 years, he has played in 96% of games (79 per season). Draisaitl is at 97% of possible games played for his career. That's barely a difference.

All of this. Drai is a better and more durable player. Matthews gets almost the same # of goals and Drai gets more assists. Without contracts this is still narrowly Drai. With contracts its a landslide.

Better so far - Draisaitl 100%. Not even close. For career, or past 3 or 5 years.

Better this year? 50/50. Probably Matthews, but just barely. Matthews may be much better last 2 months, but Drai was that much better at start of season.

Moving forward? I picked Matthews still. Ive said for a long time i really like his career trajectory. His consistency from day 1 bodes well for future expectations/longevity. He's improved his points per game and goals per game ratio every single season (including this one) which is pretty spectacular in my opinion.

It is close though - Drai is great too.

Who misses 20 games a year?

Typical Leaf fan who can't do simple math...

390 career games in 6 seasons. That's average of 65 a year, or 17 games missed out of 82. 17 rounds up to 20. It's crystal clear

Is this sarcastic?

16/17 82/82
17/18 62/82 only season he missed 20
18/19 68/82 missed 14
19/20 70/70
20/21 52/56 missed 4
21/22 56/59 missed 3

Grand total of 44 games missed over 6 years. And 1 single season of missing 20 games. He’s missed 7 games total the last 3 years.
If that was sarcastic my detector is broken and I’ll take a lap but…

There wasn’t 82 games every year. Nice try though.

Drai’s offensive numbers benefit from having more ice time and PP time, but that’s just a byproduct of how good he is and how much his team relies on him.

That being said, I’d trade away an extra 10 points or so for Matthews’ far superior defensive abilities.

But that might just be me.
