how the hell does someone from Massachusetts have the Universal Hockey Player Accent™

he sounds like he's from London, Ontario ffs
He relinquished the Masshole accent in deference to the Canucks deepseated hatred for the Bruins. True team player he is.

Every ASG player except Demko has looked average to poor for this road trip save the first one. Hopefully it's just an effect of being "on the road" for an even longer period of time than the rest of the team.

That upcoming game against Detroit will essentially be another road game given the fairly short rest in between, but it's impressive they've managed to go 3-1-1 despite looking pretty pedestrian for most of it.

To be where the Canucks are in the standings right now (first overall in the NHL), you need scoring depth. In this 3-1-1 road-trip, it was line of Blueger, Joshua and Garland, along with Hoglander.....while Hronek was lighting up from the back-end.

But that's what you have to have to keep on winning.....these are tough days right now for the likes of Pettersson, Miller and Boeser. And after an impactful opener, Lindholm really hasn't done much in the last three.

But when a team can keep on winning, with its top players basically AWOL, then you have to be optimistic this run will continue.

Wow, with the two big road trips out of the way with astounding results, I'm feeling pretty great about the chokehold we have on the league.

The big grind is not over yet though, still got another road back-to-back next week. Some big tests coming. Crazy that we play 11 games in 19 days before we get a two-day rest lol, schedule doesn't really lighten up until the big homestand in March.

If we can go over .500 this month that would be a huge victory. I wonder how much more we would need to clinch a berth after that.

Team looked tired at times and PP continues to sputter. All you can say is thank God for Garland.

Good

Garland - there were times when some misguided posters use to say that Boeser was better than Garland. Hopefully they are now fully aware of the lack of validity in that view. Boeser has never, in his life, had a shift like many of the ones Garland had in this game. And its not just the offense, its the overall game in every zone.

Joshua - love that he stepped up for Garland who takes a beating nearly every game. Those two seem to complement each other so well and Bluger does a good job of providing a good defensive presence that allows those two to work low in the offensive zone. Joshua has turned into a must re-sign and has flourished under the coaching of Tocchet.

Hronek - best d-man. HIs range of coverage is excellent. Again bailing out Hughes in the defensive end and very good in transition. Consistently good on this road trip

Freidman - didn't see him make a bad play in this game. Moved puck quickly and efficiently and made good decisions about where to move the puck Both him and Juulsen made some good plays around the net and were, it seemed, the only pairing not allowing odd man rushes, Friedman is actually a decent skater.

Hoglander - again some nice board work in the offensive zone and scored a critical goal.

Lindholm - beginning to establish what this player is. Makes quick smart plays going both ways. Doesn't look like a player who is going to wow you with some end to end rush but has the wheels to stay in the play and facitilate others . Right now he is somewhat handicapped by adjusting to Pettersson's tendency to over handle the puck. Like others, Lindholm was open for passes, but Pettersson, rather than moving the puck, dallied with it and the opening was lost.

Not Good

Boeser - lot of plodding around. Unless he gets service gets nothing done. Looked weak on the PP (although not the only one). Looks a lot like I imagine Kessel does out in Abbotsford. Boeser has looked bad since the All star game. You wonder if they will move Boeser in the off season while he has some value. Seems to have lost any power on his shot.

Lafferty - just nothing there right now. Guess water finds it level.

Others

Pettersson - continues to carry the puck too much trying to dangle around people and seems to always be passing up the smple direct play to make the hard play. (Like skating into the corner and making a backhand flip pass half way across the ice.) His play led to a number of odd man rushes against. Hurting the PP by getting himself into traffic and forced into turnovers or poor passes. Everytime he gets the puck on the PP, he gets jumped by other teams b/c they know this is the best way to break up our PP.

Myers - was a mainstay on the defense in this game. Game has slipped a bit but still far from bad.

Hughes - not back to the form he showed early in the year. Struggled at the Hawks blue line on his pinches and got standing still too much when he was defending around his net. Like others, needs to get home and get some rest. Same could be said for Miller. With the All star game included, this has been a long time away for some players.

Mikheyev - again better and maybe on the verge of getting some goals. Much more in the play.

This game marks the end of the long eastern road trips and thats a plus. They've been the death knell of the team in many years. Most of the rest of the games are in, or close to, our time zone. I'd say that getting through this trip as well as they did should ensure a playoff berth. What the team has done to date has been remarkable given anyones expectations.
