I think I appreciated the artwork of Nier Automata and HZD more than anything, although once I got the combat mechanics down in HZD, it was just fun to run around and take down the mechs or whatever they were called.

Fallout is probably my favorite story arc ever, but I really wish someone other than Bethesda made the 3D engine for it...sure, I've dumped hundreds of hours into 4, but that game engine is sometimes not even entertainingly broken. I did love 3 and the DLC packs.

But still for me, I can't replicate the first time I played SMB 3, or extending that, SMW, Sonic, or Zelda LTTP. The 16-bit wars were some good times, remember when CD addons were just going to be it!

BoTW was the only recent game where I was enthralled like a kid. I really need to beat it one of these days.

I was kind of focused mainly on more recent console games because the OP said he was looking for potential new games to play. But I agree, experiencing some of those first super Mario games for the first time was special. Lots of good old games for the original Nintendo. Blades of steel was another one of my favorites. Or going back a bit earlier, I remember playing this old tennis game on our first computer. It was on a floppy disc. My and a friend used to always bug my dad to let us play it. Or playing with/against a friend for the first time over a dial up modem. That was fun. Online play back then was a lot different (better IMO).

Super Mario 64 and golden eye would also be pretty great to experience again for the first time. I still get aggravated now thinking about collecting some of those 120 different stars

Only if you had no recollection of how much games have improved since those games were released. Those are two games that have not aged well at all.

Disagree. Take 5 minutes to get used to the controls and your fine. Every game doesn't need to control like assassin's Creed or call duty.

I could play Witcher 3 again and I would enjoy it just as much as the first time.

With RDR2, I have re-played it and appreciated the nuances of the story far more on the second play (YouTube helps a lot with this... there are a lot of details that don't seem important at first). And now I wish I could delete those memories and play it through for the first time again, without anticipating the plot twists and turns.

oh and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Such epic and amazingly crafted masterpieces. Hideo Kojima is an absolute mastermind.

Top-notch list, my man. We've got pretty similar taste, it seems. Bolded some of my particular favorites.
