We've never needed a big Nils game more than today.
According to Stars Twitter, every goal against for the past month has been because of Hakanpaa, so it's time to run to the gambling apps and put life savings onto an Oettinger shutout. I'll be rich! I'll buy an island and call it Hakapaania.

1) Every single defenseman on the roster plays worse with Hakanpaa than they do without him

2) Our 5v5 offense is astronomically worse with Hakanpaa on the ice than it is without

3) Our 5v5 defense is worse with Jani on the ice - albeit marginally.

4) His "redeeming "quality" per DeBoer is the PK, yet he's awful on that too.

He's the worst player on the roster and it's not even close. Sorry for wanting him off the ice.

Sure, but the defensive problems have gone way beyond him and have been greatly exaggerated when it comes to him. Changing out the worst guy on the roster for one slightly better doesn't address the ongoing problems in place when your worst player is on the bench.

It goes beyond the individual players though. It's a style of play question.

Is this a team that moves the puck to its talented forward group with possession? Or is this a team that chips and chases and slams the puck off the glass and boards?

The coaching staff seems to lean toward the latter with both their system changes (fly the zone / lob/ pray "innovation") and personnel decisions.

Meanwhile Nill doesn't want to play that way by all indications.
