To me, the most frustrating things about this season (and the couple before) watching the playoff unfold is how any team can suddenly not score on the PP or play at home when you have such a loaded team on offense like we see here in Toronto. The home record especially is outright embarrassing.... any excuses like media/fan pressure are no long valid anymore. Does a change of coach change this....hard to say. Then at ES - they can't score more than 2 goals - thus meaning your goaltending needs to be almost perfect. Samsonov is not the reason they are losing - he hasn't been elite, but hasn't been terrible (look at Winnipeg right now). Is this really a coaching problem?

Needless to say, I am hoping they pull off a huge comeback and see what happens in round 2. I don't think it's likely, and fore sure management is really going to have to look in the mirror and decide what happens moving forward. There are no really good UFA goaltenders this summer, and what is the cost to acquire one, and is that really the main problem - how does Samsonov look on a team like Boston/Florida? I like Bert and Domi and wouldn't be upset if they signed 2 or 3 yr contracts to stay. Then there is Marner.....hometown kid, he drives the offense and is one their best PK options, moving him would be a big loss, but really.....something has to happen.

If he was concussed I can't imagine they would have let him fly, but a doctor I am not.

Lock them out until they agree to it. Simple. Players can go to Europe and play in the Swiss Elite League if they have a problem with it. NHLPA needs to grasp the reality that the NHL is not even a top 3 professional league in North America. They amount of entitlements these spoiled brats have is insane.

Strange... the two highest players in the league also happen to be consensus finalists for League MVP.
The Rocket Richard winner was 4th. Panarin at 3rd and Pastrnak 6th were 4th and 5th in scoring.

It's almost like the best players, are paid the best, and yet somehow still keep performing. Your narrative is false on entitled brats not performing. The idea that most owners are unhappy is false, this idea is a fantasy with no backing... it wouldn't happen, and the contracts aren't the reason this isn't a top 3 league. Hockey is a niche sport, always will be... that's ok.

The other top 5 paid player won the Norris the year before.

There will be time for "Respect" either in the post game series thread on the mains, or post game threads here on Leafs forum or in the handshake line ;).

But that time is not yet; the time now is still for WAR!

Great moments are born when great opportunity knocks. Legends are born when they rise against adversity and achieve glory!

Get ANGRY. Get READY. GO WIN!

Good for you for caring and bringing a lot of positivity to the GDT.

You're a lot better than me as a fan.

The best players in the NFL get paid well too. The difference is that if their performance doesn't match that money for whatever reason the non-guaranteed money becomes a negotiating and motivational tool, whereas in the NHL a guy like Tavares will get paid every stinking dime even though he is not living up to that contract. In short, under the NFL system, the premier players still get paid big money for performance until said performance doesn't match with the cash output. The team and the player both have options.

That’s nice, but you completely miss the point.

The instances where top paid players perform to their contact outweighs circumstances they do not. There is not a league wide ownership concern about contracts, so this would never come close to being of interest to the owners.

Not only are the owners not interested, the PA wouldn’t accept it either.

It’s just a complete disconnect from any reality, and the postings of someone currently angry at their underperforming team, and can’t see past that.

They need to move to the NFL MODEL of guaranteed and non-guaranteed money and a player can essentially be cut for non performance at any time.
The problem with that is, in reality, not much would change. If you think someone is good enough to pay him $10+ million per year...then odds are if you had that nfl model, you would give him a huge signing bonus (its part of negotiations, if you say you simply won't do it and the player expects it, then its going to have the same impact on negotiations as if you lowballed him on the contract).

AND, while NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, when you do give out big signing bonuses, you are still on the hook for them. Bottom line is, when you signed this 'core' if you had the nfl model, they would all have big signing bonuses and it would end up close to the same way you are now.
