The Opponent
Playing in the front half of back-to-back games against Central Division foes, the Ottawa Senators come to St. Paul on a two-game losing skid.
Ottawa lost 4-1 to St. Louis on Thursday, then 4-3 to Toronto on Saturday and has dropped three of its past four overall dating back to Jan. 9. The Senators will get a second opportunity against the Blues on Tuesday night in St. Louis before heading home to play Boston in its final game before the All-Star break.
Minnesota won the other matchup between the clubs this season, scoring three third-period goals in a 6-4 victory at the Canadian Tire Centre on Dec 19. The Wild trailed 3-1 in the second period of that one, but scored five unanswered in the second and third periods to secure the win.
Wild forward Eric Staal had two goals and an assist in the game, and Charlie Coyle, Ryan Suter and Nate Prosser also registered multi-point nights. Alex Stalock made 28 saves in place of an injured Devan Dubnyk.
Mark Stone leads the Sens with 18 goals and 44 points this season. Erik Karlsson, who scored two goals in the matchup with Minnesota last month, has four goals and 31 points. Mike Hoffman has 12 goals and 30 points.
Goaltender Craig Anderson is 12-15-5 with a 3.24 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
