Did they score? I know teams sometimes pull goalies with like under a second left at ends of periods too, wonder how many went in.
My memory was off.

On April 5th, 1970, the Montreal Canadiens pulled the goalie with ten minutes left in a game against the Blackhawks. The tiebreaker rules of the day placed them in a unique situation where they had no incentive to play any defense after they had fallen behind.

Going into the last day of the 1969–70 NHL season the Canadiens could have clinched a playoff berth with a win or a tie against Chicago. But they fell behind early, and found themselves trailing 5–2 in the third period. If they lost the game, they would finish with the exact same record as the Rangers, 38–22–16, tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East.

The next tiebreaker at the time was total goals scored on the season. The Rangers had 246; Montreal started the day with 242.
