The Lord of the Rings explanation

The average league GF and GA rate is 3.09 goals per game. (105 goals in 34 games, as per Hockey-Reference.) Ducks have score 90 goals, a 2.65 goal per game rate (GFpg). That's 0.44 GFpg below the average GF rate. Anaheim's defense has allowed 113 goals, a 3.32 goals allowed per game rate (GApg). A result of 0.23 GApg above the GA average.

With the breakdown above, our offensive output is like a Katy Perry song, "You're hot, then you're cold." We either are able to score 4 more goal in bunches or get shutdown, but the middle scenario doesn't happen enough. Similarly, the Ducks' PP behaves that way as well. The offense is streaky as it relies on individual talents and there's a lack of offensive structure to develop consistency.

Anaheim just needs an offense to produce at the league average to generate more chances at winning.

If the yotes score too many goals then the ducks have the right to repeatedly punch their top scorer in the face for no reason. So it's win-win, except for the guy getting punched in the face but you know not everyone can win.
