The Winnipeg Jets take on the division rival St. Louis Blues in a 7:45pm start time at Canada Life Centre. The Blues have a record of 2-1-1 after a 4-2 home victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Jets, on the other hand, are 2-3-0 on the season after a come from behind overtime win against the Oilers in Edmonton. With the recent news about Judy Bowness, will this affect the play of the Jets tonight, or will they be inspired and win one for her. Can interim head coach Scott Arniel have a game plan that can have St. Louis singing the Blues? Will the later start time cause attendance to fall even further?
But the big question is: why is the game starting at 7:45pm? I can see 7:30pm and even 8:00pm, but 7:45pm for a regular season game in Winnipeg? Really? Well, my crack staff of investigative reporters dug deep and asked Gary Bettman himself what was up with such a strange start time...
Next we asked Bill Daly if the start time had something to do with his favourite music video...
He suggested we talk with Steve Hatze-Petros, the NHL's Senior Vice-President of Scheduling, but that got us nowhere, as all he could talk about was his favourite movie...
Since the crack staff was in New York already, they went to visit Gerhardt Hapsburg, the Duke of Thuringia and Earl of Westphalia, to see if he could shed any light as to why the odd start time...
At this point, my staff told me to give up and take a nap. My response...
I was not going to give up, so I did my own sleuthing. In a conversation with @bustamente on the weekend, the answer was revealed...
“The reason for the weird start time is that all 32 teams are playing on Tuesday and there will be staggered starts across the league.”
In any event, enjoy the game tonight! Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bowness family, get well soon!
