In tonight's game, the Winnipeg Jets take on the Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights in a 7:00pm CDT start time at Canada Life Centre. The Jets are coming off of a 5-1 drubbing by Pierre-Luc Dubois' Los Angeles Kings, and now have a record of 1-2 on the season. The Golden Knights, on the other hand, are 4-0 on the season, after defeating the Dallas Stars 3-2 in a shootout. With the loss of Gabriel Vilardi for between 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain, the Winnipeg lineup will look a bit different for tonight's action. Can Croissant butter our way to victory? Will Bones get some “pushback” from our troops? Is Vegas for real, or are they planning to put more players on LTIR for an even better Stanley Cup run? Will Mark Stone cry like a baby if he gets hit and complain that no one should touch him because he's “special”?
These questions may actually be answered tonight, if we're lucky...
Last season, some of you were offended by the last GDT I made during the Vegas playoff series. I bought a t-shirt just for you...
If you don't like the GDT's that I make, quit whining and start participating by making your own...
Now that I got that off of my chest, I'm here to offend again with another dark Vegas GDT...
Many of you think that our HFJets community first thought up the “F*CK VEGAS” slogan, but that simply is not the case. In fact, it's been a well known fact that this has been said by many famous people over the years...
The first instance was way back in the late 1850s, when the Mormons established a fort in Las Vegas, as a stop for supplies at the halfway point between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. It didn't last long and was abandoned several years later. While there is no record as what was said by the Mormons as they left the fort, one can only paraphrase their thoughts...
In 1946, a man named Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel had this hotel in Las Vegas called the Flamingo. He spent millions of dollars trying to make it a destination for gamblers, both big and small. He spared no expense, but it was not an immediate success. This was a problem, as the money he used was not his. It was from the mob and they did not take too kindly to his extravagances... On June 20th, 1947, an unknown assailant shot several times at Siegel through the window of his home, killing him. Before he died, one witness reported him saying...
Even the “King” has used the term...
No, not that King, I'm referring to Elvis... Back in 1956, Presley made his first appearance in Las Vegas, a two-week residency at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino. It did not go over well, as one critic from Newsweek said it was "like a jug of corn liquor at a champagne party." Elvis was reported as saying...
Even Howard Hughes didn't care much for Las Vegas. While staying at the Desert Inn in 1966, he was told to leave as he was not gambling.
...he said, then proceeded to not only buy the hotel, but also buy Castaways, the New Frontier, the Landmark, and the Sands, which effectively ended the mob era in Sin City...
And we won't even get into Tupac Shakur's story, because you know what he thought...
So, as you can see, “F*CK VEGAS” has been around for some time, and now that the Golden Showers are in the NHL, HFJets will proudly yell this very statement during every game we play against them. So stand up fellow posters and make your voices heard...
Oh, and I've got a t-shirt for that too...
Go Jets Go!
