If anything, the situation is going to be worse after a week. This postponement is de facto a cancellation. It will take 2 or 3 months for the situation to improve significantly, according to experts.
Well, in which countries? If it goes all bananas in some countries it doesn't mean other countries will be affected. It is really going back to normal fast in China. Gives: we don't know.

China is improving but the epidemic started there around 3 months ago, so even with their drastic measures the recovery has been slow. I would say the earliest time KHL could return is somewhere around late May or early June and that's just too late.

I think it's a very reasonable decision. It buys time for the KHL to assess the direction of the situation, plus players are provided a concrete timeline and can plan accordingly.

It certainly beats being 'suspended indefinitely'; where players are left hanging with no idea as to where, what, when, how anything is going to resume.

Problem is, one week does nothing. The whole outbreak just started outside of China. It’s just delaying the inevitable and keeping players on standby to play games for no reason. Players want to go back to their families if they don’t live in Russia. Some of the players were calling for this decision to be made days ago and not delay it.

Looks they made the right call now and postponed the season to April.

What took them so long? They should have postponed the moment teams started announcing plans to withdraw.

Now if they ever decide to resume, they are short two teams. Absolute clown shoes letting it get to that.

It was basically the government who postponed every league.

Best players of Round 1 play-off: Sateri, Omark, Minulin, Larsen...

I'm not surprised by this choice. IMHO Linus Omark is not only the best guy in the league but also the best Swedish player outside NHL and SWE.

Omark, Metsola, Hartikainen and Manninen chartered a plane to get out of Russia and return to Sweden/Finland. At least Omark won't be returning for the playoffs, and all the players have been allowed to stay home:

Chartrade plan – och flydde hem till Luleå

Metsola clarified to Iltalehti that he took a regular flight to Helsinki via Moscow and there was no drama involved with him. Omark said to Swedish media that the club first allowed them to leave but then changed it's mind. They had already left though.

Morozov's comments on the league's website: Alexei Morozov: ‘We can only solve this problem together’

But later, the club’s insurers said that if Jokerit went to St. Petersburg on March 16, against the advice of the Finnish government and the Finnish Health Ministry, the team’s insurance policies would be void.

Still a stupid move?

Also this:

What are the league’s plans for the immediate future?
That entirely depends on how the situation develops around the spread of the pandemic and the decisions taken by the government. Like I say, we have an idea of how to continue the tournament with six teams. But now we have to fit that into 20 days, up to April 30. We can’t rule out the possibility that Jokerit and Barys might return, and then we would need a new plan.

In that same article (on KHL own website) Morozov says:

"First we had restrictions in Moscow, then Finland and Kazakhstan closed their borders, next came a special regime in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. These bans did not all happen at once."

Did they really close borders inside Russia, between their own republics or what kind of bans are in place in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan? Can any russian user clarify this?

Bashkortostan banned all events with >1000 people involved, and Tatarstan banned any spectators on sports events among other measures. Strange that borders are even mentioned here as those are just not existing anywhere else but on paper.

Your misunderstanding might come from the wrong translation of the the word "regime". It means something different in Russian. or bet.ter to say it has an additional related meaning as "a number of measures" or "prescripted order". That is what Morozov meant when he used the russian word. Nonetheless there is nothing about borders that are of course there like in every federal state, for example state borders in the US. And the regions have a certain measure of autonomy, so they can decide on many possible actions due to the virus in their select region, again not unlike US states. Border closure between such regions is something that China did at the peak of the outbreak there, but Russia is far, far away from that condition.

Let me get this straight. Every team has a ricght to withdraw from competition for one reason or another. That does not mean squat to other teams.

I have no idea why teams ithdrawing should affect the league's decision in any way.

They postponed. Okay, let's wait and see what happens until then. Nothing to see here further.

P.S. AkBars petitioning for abandoning the season altogether is wrong and stupid.

On the contrary. It's the first sign of a realistic approach by a Russian team that I've been able to observe in this entire affair. Looks like reality will need to seep in to Moscow via Tatarstan.

What a mockery of Gagarin Cup it would be if they decided to proceed with the playoffs under current circumstances.

This year, we have the unique situation where there will be no World Championships. So, the Gagarin Cup and Stanley Cup playoffs could be played simultaneously, and that would be nice to see. Great hockey around the clock. No need to rush any of this. The NHL season isn't cancelled yet, but it doesn't look promising. (I suppose it will be regarded as a success if next season can start on time.)

The realistic approach is to decide on a day to day basis as long as it doesn't become 3-4 months. Players get boatloads of money. they will survive staying in shape and being ready to play for that salary. Teams that withdraw just lose. Thats how sports work. Teams that stay and compete can win.

The real deal here is, if everything is canceled I am a betrayed fan who followed the show for months. And then they just shut it down? How are they going to convince me to folow any of it again?(that applies to the NHL too btw) Russia is not Spain. We don't have thousands of COVID-19 infected. I understand that if the complete country gets nearly shut down, there is no way a sports league could or should proceed. We are currently not in that situation.

This is so stupid. No one cares whether you feel betrayed or not, health is more important than your entertainment. Also for the bolded, that's exactly why you should act now. Look at what happened to all the other countries who were hesitant to act early.

And whether one believes the numbers reported from Russia is totally up to them, but I'm definitely skeptical to say the least.

If a country A is not prepared for the crisis situation, it does not mean that a country B is in the same (bad) situation.

As of now, there are two countries helping Europe - China & Russia.

Just a note: Some European countries do not even have appropriate aircraft (civil or military) to deliver all the medical things needed. But it does not mean the other countries are in the same (bad) situation. The same with the crisis situation, some are prepared, others are not.

How does Russia help?

Just asking.
The help is in accordance with an agreement between Mr.Conte & Mr.Putin.

The Russian Defense Ministry said military transport planes would deliver eight mobile brigades of military medics, special disinfection vehicles and other medical equipment to Italy starting from Sunday.

Russia will also send about 100 military specialists in virology and epidemics, Interfax cited the Defense Ministry as saying.
