That's a decent deal for the Blues but I'm just glad the ROR to Calgary talk can finally die.

Thank god it wasn’t it us. I had started to talk myself into out desperation but I don not think he was good fit.

Sabres get a lot quantity not sure there is much quality there.

Great for the Blues. Sobotka is decent but wasn't very good last year, and Berglund just isn't that good. He's fine, but solid money into a lot of term. Middle 6, and Sobotka is a third liner.

The West
Btw, seeing all the 6 mil+ players with the cap increase, how'd you all feel if you were Johnny? One year later and you've got guys that aren't anywhwere near his level making close to and/or as much (Tyler Bozak for example making 5+ AAS; Ryan MacDonough 6.75 AAS; etc.).

Yes, yes, it was market valueish at the time and compared to you and I etc. But still, bottom line is you've got a star to borderline superstar playing out the bulk of his contract way below his value. Fine in a way for management, but, yet another souring point, possibly, for Johnny who wasn't too keen on the laxadasical contract negotiations and eventual offer/contract to begin with.

RFA vs UFA

Seguin, MacKinnon, Scheifele, Barkov, etc. are all in that range too.

But make no mistake, all of these guys are going to get paid in a big way in their next contracts, like 10M+ AAV. And should the term limits drop to five like the owners want in the next CBA, we might start seeing max deals sooner than later. It seems like the NHL is moving towards something like the NBA's salary distribution model.

It might not be so bad. Gaudreau will be 29 when he starts his next contract; so a five year deal at ~10M per would take him to 34, which is better than an eight year deal that would take him to 37. Although that's probably the Flyers good fortune/problem anyway.

Of course Johnny's pissed about his contract. It wouldn't have dragged out all summer if he wasn't upset with how the negotiationd went. Barring some conference final/SCF appearances in the next 3-4 years, the guy is as good as traded to Philly in the final year of his deal

Comparable trade from the Flames would have been the picks, Bennett, Frolik and... Brouwer? (ie: cap dump)

Creates a lot of holes to fill.

You know... Outside of the firsts I'm thinking BT was on it.
We can't afford to move first rounders again, not in the summer at least.

Treliving needs another top 6 forward in the worst of ways.
This team won't be a really competitive team again, not without either a huge a upgrade on the backend (like Karlsson huge) or a big top 6F add.

Perron and Maroon are still out there, but I don't know how much those guys really put us over the top.

Dunno. I expected a lot 30 days ago. I expected more 3 days ago. Today I left completely underwhelmed.

Perron signed do you mean Neal?

Length of negotiation doesn't mean anything about whether or not he is happy or not with his contract. Gaudreau's agent is notorious for dragging things out. I seem to recall every very late signing that summer was the same agent as Gaudreau.
