Flyers Find Goalie

The Flyers have been searching for Dominik Hasek’s backup all season and they appear to have found one after game 28. Arturs Irbe the diminutive Latvian has stepped up recently and played exceptional for the Flyers.

Irbe started and won his third straight game against Nashville. In fact, Irbe is unbeaten is his last 7 games as he has accumulated 5 wins and 2 ties. Irbe has a 2.57 GAA for the year and a record of 6-2-2. Irbe is expected to start his 4th straight game tomorrow night as Hasek recovers from the flu, however, coach Lemaire has confirmed who will start tomorrow night.

With Irbe playing so well, the Flyers GM has told the media that he will no longer be looking to trade for a backup goalie. “We still may do something, in fact, we’ve had some negotiations with an Eastern club for a goalie. We’ve offered a great package to them but we may soon withdraw the offer due to Irbe’s play.â€

“We don’t want to change the team drastically, we believe in our players but we would like to add some scoring depth on the RW. We’ve let it be known that all our draft picks are available for the right player including our 1st round pick and 2nd’s. We actually put an offer in with a recently hired GM but he has not responded yet, but we’ll keep looking.â€

As the Flyers keep looking for their right-winger, management must be pleased that they found a solution from within for a capable backup goalie.
