These are my grades based on their NHL season. Connolly received an A+ as a result of a great comeback season after many people wrote him off.
A+
Simon Gagne –45 goals despite missing 10 games
Scott Gomez – career yr, top 25 in points, point per game pace after horrible start
Tim Connolly – career off. Yr, also became Buffalo’s top PK before knee injury
Brent Seabrooke – top defenseman & player on bad team, 32pts, plus player
A
Mike Fisher – 43 pts, 63 games plus best def. Fwd on Ottawa team
Jason Arnott – career year despite playing 17min/game in Dallas 4 line system
Andrei Markov – missed 15 games or would be top 15 in def. scoring, tons of min.
Anton Volchenkov – 10th in +/-, playing 18 min a game
Mike Rathje – 13th in +/-, playing 20 min/game and against opp. top line
B+
Pascal Leclaire – started in minors, arguably team’s top goalie, top 10 sv%, .911 tied w/R. Miller, Brodeur
Jeff Carter – second tier of rookies, slow(mono) 1st half, excellent great 2nd half
Sheldon Souray–bad 1st half due (personal problems),huge goal prod. after Olympics
Chris Chelios – 8th +/-, still logs about 19min a game
Colin White – matured into NJ’s 2nd or 3rd best defenseman
Ray Whitney – 55pts, 63 games, very productive despite low minutes
B
Todd Bertuzzi – struggled with rest of team but still managed 70 pts to date
Tim Gleason – 4/5th def. on LA in 1st full season, logged 18 min/game w/o PP time
Brent Johnson – has played brilliantly since new year, .901 sv% for year
C
Fredrik Sjostrom – gained Gretzky’s trust, now playing 16-18 min, good 2-way game
Vaclav Varada – struggled in faster, cleaner NHL
Scott Mellamby – great leader, who’s had ave. season, should retire
Jiri Fischer–having good season until almost fatal heart condition, may try comeback
Jordin Tootoo – when given the chance has played well, still not trusted due to PIM
Thomas Pock – played well when called up, 2pts in 7 games but playing well defensively
F
Eddie Belfour – back problems and poor def. = bad season
Turner Stevenson – injuries have hurt his season
Steve Gainey – was having great AHL yr but did not produce in NHL when called up
