Hey guys, I thought I might start a new fun set of threads that's designed to go through all the numbers Panthers players have ever worn. Each thread will be a poll to decide the best player for that number. When this is all done, I'll put together a list of the Florida Panthers All-Time Number Team

Notes:
  • Some numbers only have one player, so they will represent it by default (and we won't have a thread for them), and obviously some numbers have never been worn and will be skipped.
  • If a player wore more than one number for the Panthers, they will be eligible for all numbers worn. If a player wins a number, they cannot be eligible for another.
  • The voting only matters for the time that player was a Florida Panther. Ignore their work for any other team.
  • In the case of a tie after the 72 hours has completely run out on a poll, we will have a run-off poll to decide that winner.

So far:
Number|Name
1| Roberto Luongo
2| Terry Carkner
3| Paul Laus
4| Jay Bouwmeester
5| Aaron Ekblad
6| Jason Woolley
7| Dmitry Kulikov
8| Peter Worrell
9| Stephen Weiss
10|Pavel Bure
11|Bill Lindsay
12|Olli Jokinen
13|Juraj Kolnik
14|Ray Whitney
15|Jozef Stumpel
16|Aleksander Barkov
17|Derek MacKenzie
18|Mike Hough
19|Radek Dvorak
20|Brian Skrudland
21|Tom Fitzgerald
22|Kristian Huselius | will update if it changes

I went with Rhett...but remember him as #7.

Yes, though Kulikov won that round, this another chance for him to win it. Any number they wore counts. We're certainly not going to worry about what they did in one number vs another, that's just too much, just what they did for this team.

Also...

barkovcanfinnish, Number 17, ZamBroni...

What the hell?! I'm trying to be fair and put every name on there that counts towards this...but really?! Chris Wells?? You should be ashamed! :sarcasm:

I assumed Rhett was the right choice (haven't voted yet), but Gelinas was tempting. He was here a very short while, but did pretty decent considering, though I recall not being happy with his play near the end. Still, it's hard to go against a guy like Warrener who was part of the 96 run in one way or another.

Blue Jay Way..
As much as a '96 fan as I am, I voted for Gelinas over Warrener (even though Rhett's better year here was '97 by a mile).

Gelinas was a machine when he was here. Kind of like a foreshadowing of Jags. Back-to-back 41 & 44 point seasons in '06 & '07. He was a real treat.

Another # that has a bunch of high potential draft picks: Krajicek, Rossiter, Wells, Rocco (still early), and the only one to live up somewhat to the hype, Warrener.

Shout out to Rocky Thompson, throw 'em!!! :fight:

Rhett baby. Hes got it easy with this bunch of garbage players. 23 is a bad number.

To be fair, this number was also worn by Bill Lindsay and Juraj Kolnik, but neither were eligible since they already won numbers 11 and 13 respectively...aka a chance for Warrener to shine since he lost out before to Kulikov.

Some pretty forgettable choices in this one. Warrener was the obvious choice for me and Gelinas was a hard-working guy while here. I liked Strachan too despite not being a memorable overall player for us.

The name Chris Wells still causes me to become irrationally angry. Cost the Cats my favorite forward from the early years and was the beginning of the end for that early core

Yeah I'm with you on that. But, as is with the dark ages, it's best to just joke about it.

Rhett I just can't .... listen to his Calgary morning show here. He's not that witty or much of a storyteller and the guy he is with (Boomer) is insufferable. Had it out with Boomer back in the day over Bou/his ranking of him.

With that said my on ice vote, Warrener.

Yeah, I still don't get that trade. It wasn't needed at all.

Simple case of a GM falling head over heels for an off ice adonis and traded a guy who didn't look like a NHL player, but produced like one. As we all know it ended up being a case of looks like tarzan, playing like jane. That trade wouldn't have hurt so much if Barnes didn't last so long in the NHL as a constant reminder of what we once had.
