Boston and Pittsburgh come to mind instantly. Washington isn’t great, Edmonton is meh, etc etc.
We’re in the 20 something range imo. The bigger problem is the team refusing to give chances to players.
Some are on the same level or just above us, yet these teams have all had more recent success in the playoffs. ALL 4 have at least graduated a prospect to the nhl in the last 5 years and 3/4 have cups in the last 12 years with the 4th atleast making it to the conference finals last year.
1. Pittsburgh - They might actually be worst than us overall prospect wise, and are actually one of the 4 teams in the league that are older than us on average. They had 0 players in the world juniors vs our 1 player and we have a few guys in the AHL that are more promising. But this is a team that is at the end of an era that has won them 3 cups since 2009 (two cups since 2016) and are still preforming just better than us still this season.
2. Boston - Same level as us IMO. Same age as our team on average. But better younger NHL roster players like pastrnak, Mcavoy, lindholm and debrusk. They had two players at the world juniors that combined for 4 goals vs our one player that had an assist. They ahl team is tied in points with the wranglers, although we seem to have a couple players that look to have a higher potential ceiling. Also the bruins are in win now mode(and actually look like they could pull it off) as they have 8 points more than 2nd place in the league. Also won a cup 12 years ago in 2011.
3. Washington - Another team in the same league as us, but that core has a stanley cup in the last 5 years. Oldest team on average in the league. One player in world juniors with an assist just like us.. Best AHL team in the league. Same level as us with actual "young" nhl players but are having a better season than us with an extra 7 points. Sonny Milano is a bright point on their team, a guy we said no to so we could ice guys like lucic and rooney lolll
4. Edmonton - One of the worst ran franchises in the league, yet still a level above us. They have two of the best players in the world in their prime, and are quiet a bit younger on average. One world junior player with one assist like us. AHL team is trash as they are actually giving some of their young guys chances this year due to their cap situation. They made the conference finals last year, a feat we havent done since 2004 with a younger team. They are a competent GM away from actually being a serious threat. They have one point more than us this year aswell and won the season series 2-1.
So I think pittsburgh is worse, but have some players with three rings on their fingers, Washignton and boston are better current teams with more recent success, and even the shit bag oilers have had more recent success and IMO have a brighter future in the next 7 or so years when you look at contract situations. NONE of these teams would have lucic in their top 9 lol. IMO we are in the 27-32nd overall for prospects.
