I honestly don't get why Florida traded Reimer for Darling only to buy out Darling. Both give 4 years of dead cap and a Reimer buyout had the lesser penalty for 3 of 4 years.

reimer had much worst penalty year 2 because he had most of his contract in signing bonus the rest is pretty similar

Good PTO option for Devils here as they need a veteran #3 to bounce between Binghampton and NJ.

I think the problem with Darling, is he is not seen as an NHL-goaltender. Not even a tweener.

He also wasn't good in the AHL. Had the best team in the AHL in front of him and still put up worse statistics than he did in the NHL.

It really is wild how fast he fell off. He went from a .924 in the NHL to a .882 in the AHL in under two years. I can't think of any comparable to that.

Hard to imagine he gets any NHL contract at this point. Maybe if he's lucky, someone's willing to throw him a bone and give him a minimum salary 2-way deal with the intent to bury him in the AHL but the NHL component still there "just in case" he finds his game again.

I just saw on his IG that he and his girlfriend are traveling in China right now. Darling to HC Kunlun Red Star E5?

Jim Carey is the first name that comes to mind. Won a Vezina at 21 and then was out of the league in 3 years.

He caught fire on a really talented team and made the most of it. He's fortunate to have lasted as long as he did. I love his size and he's not overly old. Shouldn't have trouble finding an AHL job or somewhere in Europe.

Moving to China wouldn't be a terrible idea in his position TBH. That NHL money would last a lot longer if converted to Yuan.

Yeah, that's a pretty close comparable (other than the obvious Vezina) in terms of fast fall-offs.
