That's pretty sad. 112 years and it ends just like because of injuries.
Cue the French media crying. What do you guys think
Mostly because Hockey Quebec is in shambles.
Just watch the circus that’s coming in next 48-hrs...Who cares about xenophobic French media
Newsflash: Molson and by extension, the Montreal Canadiens care nothing about Hockey in Quebec, they care nothing about francophones, quebecois or the identity in the team.
They only cared about doing enough to maintain their bottom line and cower from backlash.
If they cared.. at all.. they would be doing monumental work with Hockey Quebec. They do nothing.
That's really where the topic should steer into. Analyze what is going on in hockey Quebec, and stop deflecting it as a habs issue.
With the draft system the way it is, the habs will always have more chance at acquiring players from Quebec if there is a larger talent pool.
This is only a habs issue if we go back to the original 6 era with territorial rights to players.
The fourth line should always be composed of french canadian. You get a better bang for your buck. Players a la Begin. I dont understand why we dont use draft pick to get these type of players who you know they will be ready to bleed bleu blanc rouge for the team. You could have 3 french canadian at min salary do an incredible job on the 4th line. Its an advantage we dont use. The feeling of pride is strong from players born here and playing for the CH. Plus the media always liked the blue collar type french canadian players, like Danault.
What a load of horseshyte; why should a player's birthplace/first language take precedence over their ability to play the game??...play the best lineup, regardless of this "hometown" BS...this is exactly the type of thinking that has this team spinning its wheels in mediocrity for the last quarter century...ffs...
Oh please....Hockey Quebec is merely a reflection of how non business friendly the province is as a whole. Want to be ultra-socialist well businesses incapable of market based completion (hello there Bombardier) comes with the territory.
Want to be the best in this age of global competition, need to recruit & hire the beat & brightest regardless of race, religion, creed or language
I've been yelling about this for damn near a decade now but I get called a francophone hater when I shit on the decision to ice Belzile over more useful players or when I don't want to reach on a QMJHL player who I've not had a good scouting on (Louis Leblanc for example.. yet, nobody says a thing when I pound the table for Mavrik Bourque)
If you really cared about the quebecois/francophone representation in the Montreal Canadiens and also cared about their success as a franchise, instead of throwing shitty displays over Cunneyworth, how about you hold Molson's toes to the fire and get him to invest money in the following things:
He doesn't do much, if any, of that.. so really, do you want to hire Therrien back a third time to feel represented or do you want an investment into your actual people and have a long line of properly developed players, coaches and managers to choose from?
- Improved minor hockey and development in Quebec
- Coaching and Management programs for Quebec area coaches, scouts, managers
- Increased scouting resources in the Quebec area.
I don't care
I also get annoyed like crazy watching hockey on TVAS. They always say "le québécois X" or the city he comes from so many times in a game and in every game
Ownership in QMJHL is closed to a select group of old school types - Marc Denis was talking about how hard it was for him & Daniel Briere & Jocelyn Thibeault to buy equity stakes in junior teams, league owners were terrified of out of the box thinking. That first part is so ridiculous it doesn't merit any attention.
That second part though, is somewhat a part of the problem. Sweden and Finland self reflected and opened their hockey development programs to new ideas.
