The fourth line should always be composed of french canadian. You get a better bang for your buck. Players a la Begin. I dont understand why we dont use draft pick to get these type of players who you know they will be ready to bleed bleu blanc rouge for the team. You could have 3 french canadian at min salary do an incredible job on the 4th line. Its an advantage we dont use. The feeling of pride is strong from players born here and playing for the CH. Plus the media always liked the blue collar type french canadian players, like Danault.

Newsflash: Molson and by extension, the Montreal Canadiens care nothing about Hockey in Quebec, they care nothing about francophones, quebecois or the identity in the team.

They only cared about doing enough to maintain their bottom line and cower from backlash.

If they cared.. at all.. they would be doing monumental work with Hockey Quebec. They do nothing.

Over the last 30 years, the need to have French Canadians in all parts of the organization has caused more harm than good, especially since the organization became more and more conservative/old fashioned.

If you're going to create artificial roster/staff requirements that your competition doesn't care about, then you better be aggressively future-sighted.

This shouldn't matter as it's a business and you ice the team you think is best able to get the W, but we all know that, win or lose, there's gonna be a shytestorm in the Media...hardest thing about being a Habs fan, imo; politics before performance...only good thing to come out of this is that it might finally be the thing that gets the Media pissed at Bargain Bin & Co. enough to make Money Bags Molson fire their arses...sad state of affairs, as usual...

Mostly because Hockey Quebec is in shambles.

That's really where the topic should steer into. Analyze what is going on in hockey Quebec, and stop deflecting it as a habs issue.

With the draft system the way it is, the habs will always have more chance at acquiring players from Quebec if there is a larger talent pool.

This is only a habs issue if we go back to the original 6 era with territorial rights to players.

Well, Hockey Quebec is already filled with illuminaries.

The kind that describe Sean Couturier as an ordinary talent.

I've been yelling about this for damn near a decade now but I get called a francophone hater when I shit on the decision to ice Belzile over more useful players or when I don't want to reach on a QMJHL player who I've not had a good scouting on (Louis Leblanc for example.. yet, nobody says a thing when I pound the table for Mavrik Bourque)

If you really cared about the quebecois/francophone representation in the Montreal Canadiens and also cared about their success as a franchise, instead of throwing shitty displays over Cunneyworth, how about you hold Molson's toes to the fire and get him to invest money in the following things:
  • Improved minor hockey and development in Quebec
  • Coaching and Management programs for Quebec area coaches, scouts, managers
  • Increased scouting resources in the Quebec area.
He doesn't do much, if any, of that.. so really, do you want to hire Therrien back a third time to feel represented or do you want an investment into your actual people and have a long line of properly developed players, coaches and managers to choose from?

This...............should have nothing to do with modern day sports/NHL. The Habs are the only organization that has to deal with this, and it has hurt more than helped.
The francophone media needs to ask itself, WHY no francophone players even want to play for the team.
That being said, this is an injury situation along with a personal leave situation. It's not like there are no members of the team who are from the province.

What a load of horseshyte; why should a player's birthplace/first language take precedence over their ability to play the game??...play the best lineup, regardless of this "hometown" BS...this is exactly the type of thinking that has this team spinning its wheels in mediocrity for the last quarter century...ffs...

We never iced a 4th line composed of french canadian and we are mediocre for over a quarter of century. I think you dont get my point. We would get better result from the 4th line with french canadian. Im sure of it. Guys like Begin where playing way above their head for the ch because the pride of playing was so big. I disagree with you

I think we could extract more juice from french canadian on the 4th line for a cheaper price

Plus let not put our head in the sand, a majority of the fans like having players from quebec in the team. You please this portion of fans by drafting more quebecers, plus the fourth line player take some heat away from skills player like Drouin. And they can please the media by talking with them in french after a game. Thats the way I would build the team anyway.

Oh please....Hockey Quebec is merely a reflection of how non business friendly the province is as a whole. Want to be ultra-socialist well businesses incapable of market based completion (hello there Bombardier) comes with the territory.

Want to be the best in this age of global competition, need to recruit & hire the beat & brightest regardless of race, religion, creed or language

That first part is so ridiculous it doesn't merit any attention.

That second part though, is somewhat a part of the problem. Sweden and Finland self reflected and opened their hockey development programs to new ideas.

I think the habs can play a part in some grassroots initiatives. I really have no clue what they do in that regard so I can't say what kind of job they are doing.

But their resources should primarily be steered towards finding talent period, whether it's in Quebec or elsewhere. I don't want geography to play a part in the decision unless they are down to two guys who are pretty much equal in their evaluations.

I don't care

I also get annoyed like crazy watching hockey on TVAS. They always say "le québécois X" or the city he comes from so many times in a game and in every game

Which is really low. Like sewers and gutters low. They're playing with people's sensibilities to get viewership and the dummies lap it up. The Nordiques need to come back ASAP.

Ownership in QMJHL is closed to a select group of old school types - Marc Denis was talking about how hard it was for him & Daniel Briere & Jocelyn Thibeault to buy equity stakes in junior teams, league owners were terrified of out of the box thinking.

Denis said league owners were terrified they would bring in US style competitive business practices & step up pressure on Gilles Courteau to think more open minded in changing the game like David Branch of OHL.
