Ovie is simply more fun
That's it for me. He came in like a heat seeking missile, hitting everything in sight. He was also fast and incredibly flashy with an exuberance you just didn't see among hockey players at that time. I became a fan of his immediately while it took me a few years to warm up to Crosby.

I feel bad for the younger fans who only know Ovechkin as the guy that stands at the face off dot waiting for a one timer. In his youth there was nobody more exciting on a rush. His dekes were phenomenal and it felt like he could and would score from anywhere.

Couldn't be any other 2 players in this final. This is how it had to be.

Crosby is just a born winner. His commitment to the game is second to none in its history.

Ovie has been on just as talented of teams as Sid nhl and internationally and has a fraction of the success Crosby has had.

NHL yes, internationally no. Look at Russia's depth on the blue line compared to what Canada was able to ice in the past two Olympics. Russia has fallen off significantly while Canada just had a golden age, so international comparisons have always struck me as meaningless.

We can probably agree that Anže Kopitar is a hell of a lot better of a hockey player than Chris Kunitz, but the latter was born in a better country to achieve success on the international stage.

Especially his undying support for a dictator, unlike the boring Canadian. I’ll take the humble guy that actually significantly gives back to the countries/communities that made him rich and famous.
Not gonna make this a whole thing because this is a hockey poll forum, but as somebody with significant ties to Russia and Russians, both expats and those who reside there, it's very easy to make sweeping statements about the morality of actions of folks from a country ruled by a guy you yourself admit is a dictator.

And anyway, title says "favorite" not "better person." Ovechkin was more fun on the ice, and more fun off it. He doesn't play for my team, so I'm happy to judge on that basis.

It's Crosby.

Love Ovi and all, but Crosby is a national hero and it would be treason to not vote for him

Ovie is an aspiring war criminal who spent the first half of his career floating around, ignoring defense, and playing through his teammates shifts. He didn’t become a real player until Trotz.

Ovie under Boudreau was a disgrace. And it’s that Ovie most people romanticize.

Ovechkin in his first handful of seasons is one of my favorite players ever. The Ovechkin that has topped 80 points only 5 times in the last dozen years and is only 3 points above PPG in all that time? Not so much.

Ovechkin for peak. Crosby for everything else. Voted Crosby.

Bluster aside, these two opinions are interesting in contrast with one another. You dislike Ovechkin for exactly opposite reasons.

Some people like the old Ovi, and some people like the 2015-onwards Ovi it seems.

Yeah hopefully people in Canada and especially Usa will wake up to Ovechkin Putin stuff and he will be banned from NHL it would be only right think to do atm. NHL's stragedy seems to be lets ignore this eventough its worse stuff than even racism etc kind of stuff its same level as Drasaitl would have Hitler's picture in his Instagram and support Hitler openly.
