Well you have to assume that it's either Hextal or Lundqvist because they were the only to players to begin their first 3 seasons with 30+ wins right...? So lets take a look at the stats then

Hextal: 97 wins after 3 full seasons ( 192 Games )
Lundy: 100 with 9 games remaining ( 186 Games )

So there you have it... We all have to assume it's Lundqvist then...

I could be dead wrong... but I mean you would have to assume that it had to be one of the 2 guys who were about to accomplish the 30-30-30 in the first 3 years...

I don't who has the record, but Roy did it in just a couple of games quicker than Lundqvist by my count, so it's not him at least.

Roy had 101 wins after 187 games, Lundqvist has 100 wins after 187 games. So Roy has Lundqvist beat for sure.

Chris Osgood had 99 wins after 157 games...

Not necessarily, because if a goalie played less games in a season, but had a better winning percentage... that would skew the argument.

That's what happened with Roy. It took him 4 seasons with the big club to hit 100 wins, but he was only playing in 45 games or so in the first 3 and only played 55 in the 4th. He played 187 games over 4 seasons instead of Lundqvist's 187 over 3. Roy only recorded over 30 wins in the 4th one.

i like where you're heads at, good call but what if, for arguments sake someone had 40-40-20 (something like that..)

Yeah I totally thought of that... From the start though the Natural thing to do was to compare Lundy and Hextall because of their 30-30-30 seasons to start..

I did look at Brodeur but figured it wasn't him but stupid me, didn't even think of at least looking at Roy...

Osgood I would have NEVER guessed... this guy flies under the radar consistently..

Well this is a little unfair to the other goalies mentioned in this thread. Lundqvist has the SO working in his favor.

Exactly. To get a true comparison, all Hank's SO wins would have to be counted as ties.
But, all other goalies mentioned in this thread weren't even close to do it in their first three seasons either. Lundqvist walked right into the 1st goalie position.

But yes, comparing old stats with new stats under entirely different rules is impossible.

Except nearly every goalie of any particular era has/had some advantage over the previous generations. Roy had advantages Dryden, Esposito, or Sawchuk didn't. I think the only way to fairly compare goalies is within their own generation.

Yes, he was.... and the lockout comment doesn't make sense anyway. This whole thread is referencing 100 wins in a goaltenders first X amount of games played, not X number of seasons.

statement was made for henrik being the second 30-30-30 goalie. Even though, i was incorrect broduer only had 27 wins his first season, but in 47 games.....

Chris Osgood had 99 wins after 157 games...

Osgood was at that 99 win total at the end of the 96-97 season. He got his 100th win on October 3, 1997. That was likely the season opener.

That means 100 wins in 158 games. It was 100 wins in 151 decisions.

Gotcha - didn't realize you were referring to that. Thought you were talking about the 100 win mark.
