Wagner not only made the team for this year’s WJC, he’s centering Sweden’s 3rd line.

Sweden’s roster today:

Draft pedigree of their forwards:

Carlsson: 2023 draft eligible, projected top 5 pick
Bystedt: 2022 1st round, #27 overall (SJS)
Rosen: 2021 1st round, #14 overall (BUF)

Ohgren: 2022 1st round, #19 overall (MIN)
Ostlund: 2022 1st round, #16 overall (BUF)
Lysell: 2021 1st round, #21 overall (BOS)

Lekkerimaki: 2022 1st round, #15 overall (VAN)
Wagner: 2022 6th round, #175 overall (WPG)
Stjernborg: 2021 4th round, #108 overall (CHI)

Robertsson: 2021 3rd round, #71 overall (STL)
Oscarsson: (undrafted 2021 eligible)
Pettersson: 2022 3rd round #72 overall (OTT)

Stromgren: 2021 2nd round, #45 overall (CGY)

…Wagner is the 2nd youngest forward on the team (after Carlsson who isn’t draft eligible until 2023), he was drafted later than any of them (except Oscarsson who wasn’t drafted), and yet he’s their 3rd line C.

Wagner had 1+2 for 3 points today in Sweden’s 11-0 blowout win over Austria, good for a share of the tournament scoring lead on day one. Here’s his goal:
