Sounds like they were happy with Eklund or Clarke. Chose not to trade up for Eklund. At least reading in between the lines.

Good interview. Interesting insight on DL's philosophy on drafting as well. Makes sense looking back on it all.

I said not to trade the pick until we draft. Players fall all the time. Good to keep the additional asset and not to move up but I think Eklund will be a star forward. Getting a D was a need, so picking Clarke is a no brainer. Hope he turns out to be a top tier offensive D man for us.
I think the Sharks and Kings made out like bandits here for the 7-8 selections. Both could end up in the top 5 in a redraft in a few years. Should of been in top 5 now to be honest.
