The RMC hockey program does not have any history of producing top-level coaches, so this is very notable.

Luke Pierce was a true character player. At about 5'5 and 170 lbs (give or take) he willingly took on all comers, as evidenced by his career regular season stats of 23 G, 30 A, 53 Pts, and 279 PIM in 108 GP.

Here's what you need to know about Luke: In the 5 seasons he played at RMC - including 2 as Team Captain - the Paladins never registered fewer than 7 Wins, a total they had only achieved twice in the 15 seasons prior to his arrival, and a total they have not achieved since his departure.

Luke was an Academic All-Canadian and completed his MBA. Not long after graduating from RMC, he took on the role of GM and Coach of his hometown Merritt Centennials, a team in dire financial straits. A perennial also-ran prior to his arrival, Luke has since made Merritt a consistently competitive BCHL franchise, hence his hiring in Kootenay.

When the CIS does produce top coaches, they tend to come from programs like Alberta, McGill, and UNB. Kudos to Luke Pierce for bucking that trend.
