That's what the KHL was supposed to do. Sure, it may mean that more European players choose to stay in their part of the world, but for a pure best on best hockey and the chance of lucrative paycheques, you're going to go to the NHL. Considering the length that European hockey teams have to go to to even turn a profit and stay viable, I'm not so certain that they would be able to affect the NHL that much. But hey, a rogue league that sprung up in the seventies ushered in widespread changes for the NHL, so who's to say this new Euro League can't do the same, or something similar?

The date on the article is wrong, it's older than that. This is clearly talking about the start of the KHL. Alex Medvedev was the first president of the league.
