Indeed, also remembering others like Syl Apps, Conn Smythe (both World Wars), and Ken Reardon are names I can think of off the top of my head. Ones like Red Storey (knees completely shot) and Maurice Richard (badly broken leg) tried to enlist in the army but were turned down because of injuries suffered in their athletic careers.

Very nice C58. I feel it is necessary to give thanks to the many enlisted people of both WW's for their efforts and sacrifices. A strange but epic turn of events led to me being able to grace this earth. My paternal grandfather contracted influenza right after basic training and, as a result was discharged, never seeing battle. I am thankful he was able to survive the influenza, that he never saw battle and perhaps most of all, for those Canadians that did serve and retain our freedom.
