Despite going "cold" the last few weeks, I thought Konecny and Tippett were two bright spots. Man do I wish they were two years younger. Frost had his moments - both good and bad, but I think he was better than his raw numbers. Sanheim started off great, and then logged a zillion minutes. York showed strides - credit to Brad Shaw, seriously. Farabee bit of a let down, after me calling him a potential "olympian" in January lol.

For my expectations sake - I gave Poehling an A. He gave this team life every night - played in all situations, even though he shouldn't be on the PP lol. Hathaway too. Thank you Walker for the first.

I've said it before, I think Zamula stinks, but I'm happy he's here. I hope he's back next year. Cates...man there is something there. Just wish he could be a 15 and 20 guy.

Atkinson and Staal. Simply no words. Erik Johnson was terrible. Deslauriers lol.

Jamie Drysdale has all the ability - needs to produce more offense and figure out the defensive scheme. Insanely important offseason for him.
_____________________
Thought Shaw was great. Rocky needs to go. Kim D had a lot to deal with this year, good for him. BTW - Brad Shaw's legacy might be how Drysdale plays next year.

Torts got the team to overachieve, not denying that - but questionable scratch after questionable scratch, inconsistent benchings, playing the vets down the stretch when they didn't deserve it (thought everything was on merit?). He deserves credit but also blame.

Briere made some nice moves - Provorov deal, Poehling, flipping Walker...but did nothing creative or challenging - Konency trade. Still no Laughton trade. The Erik Johnson trade was an abomination.

Honestly it was a fun season - but we ended up back in purgatory.

T. Konecny RW A Imagine him with an elite center?
O. Tippett RW C Can shoot and skate but has he ever won a board battle?
J. Farabee LW C Hard to tell with the way torts moves him up and down the line up
T. Sanheim D B Left side 2nd pair would be ideal
M. Frost C A Getting shafted as usual. Would be a great 3rd line center
S. Laughton C D dime a dozen try hard
S. Couturier C C Wore down by the idiot head coach and then takes the blame for it
T. Foerster RW C Work in progress still
C. York D B Think he is going to be good still
C. Atkinson RW F Time to retire
R. Poehling C C Should be 4th line C Nothing else
B. Brink RW C Needs steady linemates. Torts' whipping boy
S. Walker D * B Missed more then anyone thought
E. Zamula D D Shows snippets of talent then lots of meh
N. Cates LW D 4th line LW Nothing else
G. Hathaway RW C 4th liner pushed into bad roles higher in line up
N. Seeler D C Shot blocker. Torts love child. Think we kept the wrong defender here
O. Lycksell RW D Never really got going being in and out of the line up
M. Staal D F The fork was stuck in him long ago
J. Drysdale D * C Will be hated here soon in he doesnt turn into something
L. Belpedio D F Sounds like a pizza place
N. Deslauriers LW F 4 minutes a game for this glue? Brings nothing
R. Ristolainen D D I am waiting for this improvement all the shills talk about
E. Johnson D * D Bad panic trade
R. Attard D D Never got a really fair chance in my opinion
A. Ginning D D What we saw is what he is
D. Gurianov RW * D Did he even play?
V. Mete D F Did nothing for the Flyers
R. Gardner C F Did nothing for the Flyers
E. Andrae D D Should have been here in a rebuilding year
T. Laczynski C F Should have been given a role here as 3rd line center for at least 10 games

Ersson C over worked. Needs to improve a lot still to be a number 1
Sandstrom D Another goalie given up on
Petersen D Ya, just no
Fedotov D Has been good everywhere else. Hope he can adjust and play well

Briere D Listens too much to his out of date coach on what type of players to get
Torts F Would have healthy scratched Gretzky in Brantford if there was a game there
Shaw C Defensive guru?
Rocky F Can kiss my a** Should never work again in this league
Dillabaugh C Anyone called "Dilly" by the coach needs to be sent packing along with him

AHL Phantoms and all there staff need to be purged. DEVELOPMENT DEVELOPMENT DEVELOPMENT Say it with me

Also make a special room for the old guard to sit in everyday. Have pictures on the wall of glory days gone by. Tell them they are great but NEVER ask their opinions again!!!! Add a cell phone jammer incase they try to call also.

Please find another Mike Richards. Tenacity like his was amazing!!!

This team makes me cry :(

T. Konecny RW A- - top line player performed like a top line player
O. Tippett RW - B+ - Tippett did Tippett things. Would be nice if he could become a PP contributor but doesn't feel like he'll be a true PP1 weapon
J. Farabee LW - B - Just a weird season - the point totals look fine, but huge peaks and valleys in play and lack of PP production, or even flashing
T. Sanheim D - B+ had a typical Sanheim season
M. Frost C - B - got dicked around and still had a productive season. Would like to see his finishing improve and to flash more on the PP, but again, that's an everyone issue
S. Laughton C - D+ - not a good season, but is once again a winger forced into playing center
S. Couturier C - C - health was good which was the biggest positive.
T. Foerster RW - B+ - tale of two seasons, needs to get his shot off quicker and would like to see more playmaking. Seems to have been told just to grind and shoot, which he did a good job at.
C. York D - B+ - Good season, is what he is, just a steady Edy.
C. Atkinson RW - F - Father time is undefeated
R. Poehling C - A - overplayed, but not his fault. A good player in a limited role.
B. Brink RW - C - can see flashes of talent but the skating really concerns me.
S. Walker D * - A - pump and dump trade for a player having a career year. Please don't come back.
E. Zamula D - C+ - I'll be honest that I think I'm higher on Zamula than most of the board. Oozes puck presence and patience which can't be taught, but needs to iron out some mistakes and hit the gym.
N. Cates LW - C+ - Similar to Poehling, a good player in a limtied role who is overplayed.
G. Hathaway RW - C - Even outside of getting stapled to Deslaurier for half the season, would have like to see a little more offense.
N. Seeler D - B - played well with Walker, need to determine how much of that is him vs. playing with Walker.
O. Lycksell RW - C+ - incomplete, should have been played more but didn't produce results.
M. Staal D - D+ - Just bad at this point.
J. Drysdale D * - C+ - incomplete, played injured all season.
L. Belpedio D - C+ who cares
N. Deslauriers LW - F - can't play anymore.
R. Ristolainen D - C - Played OK in limited minutes, but injured half the year
E. Johnson D * - D+ - bad
R. Attard D - C+ - limited minutes, want to see him in the lineup more next season
A. Ginning D - D+ - bad, but hits
D. Gurianov RW * - who cares
V. Mete D - who cares
R. Gardner C - who cares
E. Andrae D - incomplete - honestly it was so long ago I forget how bad or not bad he was. Definitely needs to play quicker.

Ersson - B- - put in an impossible situation and did as best he could. Tried to give him a B but that bad stretch was BAD
Sandstrom - D+ - not an NHL goalie
Petersen - D+ - not an NHL goalie
Fedotov - C+ - also put in an impossible situation, almost wanted to give him an incomplete.

Hard to tell, need to see him play regularly with decent linemates. He appears to have good enough skating and playmaking skills but I’m not sure he has the ability to finish at the NHL level.

I hope he can at least get a chance to play from the jump next seasin

Not sure why this is showing as a reply... uggg. frustrating...
I hate this site. Not sure how to make it show as it's own post.
T. Konecny RW - A-
O. Tippett RW - B+ I think this is who he is. He's great as a middle 6 winger.
J. Farabee LW - B- Great first half before disappearing down the stretch
T. Sanheim D - A What more can you ask of him after the mess of the offseason?
M. Frost C B He did amazingly well considering how badly he was handled
S. Laughton C - D- Outside of a few weeks when he thought he was getting traded, he was hot garbage
S. Couturier C - B Great first half, but the big thing is him staying healthy
T. Foerster RW - A- I'd give him a solid A if he didn't struggle so much scoring early on
C. York D - A- In hindsight, it looks like his dip was related to injuries.
C. Atkinson RW - D- He was effective and scoring early. Then fell off a cliff and died.
R. Poehling C - A He's a great 4th line center. Big problem is Torts thinks he's a #1
B. Brink RW - B- Up and down season, but how he was handled didn't help.
S. Walker D * A+ What the hell more could we have asked from him?
E. Zamula D C+ He is what he is.
N. Cates LW B- I think he was fine. The big problem is people expecting him to score.
G. Hathaway RW B+ Couldn't score early, but he's a great 4th liner
N. Seeler D B+ He was as good as you could hope. Not great when he came back later. Why did we resign him???
O. Lycksell RW - Incomplete
M. Staal D - C - He played to his top level (low bar). At least he never whined.
J. Drysdale D * -- Incomplete. I don't know what to make of his season.
L. Belpedio D -- Incomplete
N. Deslauriers LW -- A+ Brings so much to culture
R. Ristolainen D - Incomplete
E. Johnson D * - C He was exactly the nobody we thought when trading for him.
R. Attard D - Incomplete
A. Ginning D - Incomplete
D. Gurianov RW * Incomplete
V. Mete D - Incomplete
R. Gardner C - Incomplete
E. Andrae D - Incomplete

Ersson - B I'd have given him an A if not for the late season collapse
Sandstrom - D- He was jerked around so much early that he deserves a bit of sympathy
Petersen - F
Fedotov - A+ for the sheer joy of him appearing in philly out of nowhere when we all thought he was done.

Briere - C Staal, EJ and the lack of moving anyone outside of Walker are all puzzling
Torts - C Got them playing well for more than half a season. Then the wheels fell off. And I'm tired of him playing favorites and making ridiculous roster management decisions.
Shaw A+ Should get an award for what he did with the D and PK
Rocky F- Somehow made the worst pp in the league even worse. I believe he has the worst PP record of any coach in history over a 2 year span. It doesn't get better if you include the 2 years prior with SJ
Dillabaugh B gotta give him some credit for Ersson

Finally getting some time to write a lengthy post. I said in my Roster post I would outline the Rookie's this year. I'm going to start with Tyson Foerster.

Tyson finished the season with 20g, 13a (33p) over 77 games. There were 23 rookie forwards that played 500min this season, and Foerster finished 17th in points/60. Foerster started playing around 15m per night but finished averaging about 18 minutes per night by the end of the season (where he was playing more minutes per game on average than any other forward not named Konecny).

By most sources I can find, Foerster had a strong analytical season, lead primarily by his defensive impacts. It felt like this was an accurate representation of the eye test as well. Despite his lack of footspeed, Foerster was able to stay ahead and anticipate play. His offensive impacts weren’t terrible, about league average. Somewhat obviously, he shot the puck about as frequently as the average forward, and his individual expected goal rate was that of an average forward.

One area where Foerster wasn’t great was his passing. He’s ranked in the bottom ~20th percentile in Hockey Viz’s ‘setting’ metric – a metric that attempts to determine how often your passes turn into dangerous shots. His tracking data from all three zones indicated that he wasn’t making many dangerous passes, either (I take ATZ data with a grain of salt because it’s only ¼ of players total ice time). I think this is where there is the most potential for growth in his game exists. Foerster has a subtle passing game at lower levels that has not yet emerged in his NHL game.

One thing that I think can’t go unnoticed is his linemates at 5v5. His most common linemates at 5v5 were TK and Couts. Yes, it’s true that Couts has taken somewhat of a step back, but it also helps that he was playing with the best players forwards on the team. And given that, it’s somewhat concerning that he didn’t finish the year with more points, and with more of an offensive impact.

As I said earlier, I gave Foerster a B+. With more offensive production, I would have given him an A. I fairly confident that Foerster has another 10-20 points to give, linemate dependent. I guess there’s a possibility he can continue to get better and can increase his points total by 25-30. If that happens, you’re looking at a Mark Stone-type player. Of course, the opposite is possible, and he doesn’t get any better. Even if that’s the case, he’s still providing very good value for the team.
