Going Hughes, too dynamic. His impact is bigger on the ice. Pettersson has been the 3rd best player on the team this season. Which speaks to the quality players the Canucks have.

But Hughes is the type of defenseman who will play 27 minutes and be impactful the full 27 minutes. While Pettersson will play 21-23 and have off-shifts where he doesn't impact the play that much.

I think Pettersson up to now. He was better in Hughes’ rookie year in 19-20, he was hurt in 20-21, but Hughes had a poor year anyway, Hughes was better in 21-22, but Pettersson figured himself out in the second half of that year and was arguably better in that half, and then Pettersson was better last year.

I voted Hughes going forward though. It’s early, but the way he’s controlling games is just so impressive lately, and it was starting back since the coaching change. And as good as Pettersson is, he’s more of a guy who makes really smart, efficient plays, and has the skill to make teams pay when he gets his spots, but he doesn’t really impose his will on the play to the same degree and can take what’s given to him in the flow of play. I think he’s learned that he can’t be as effective trying to deke the other team on every rush because too often it doesn’t end up working.

Hughes seems to be going the other way, where he seems to be learning more and more that he can do whatever he wants with the puck. He’s getting that X-factor that Pettersson seemed to have as a rookie but has mostly disappeared since, where, when he’s on, teams just can’t do anything about it. And if he keeps gaining confidence, he’s going to be really scary for them. It’s a bit like his brother, who, while having a similar year to Pettersson last year, just has an extra gear that will likely make him better going forward.

Quinn Hughes is one dimensional? How many Canucks games have you watched in the last year?

Hughes is easily the Canucks best player. I'm not trying to knock Pettersson - he is incredible as well.
Yeah, anyone who thinks Hughes is one-dimensional needs to wake up from their coma. Either that or they haven't actually watched a Canucks game in over two years.

It's too close to call right now. Pettersson might not look as dominant because he plays a lot more in the forward zone where checking is more intense. Still, Pettersson is tracking towards a 110 + point season, which would probly put him top 3 in league scoring. Hard to beat that.

Hughes has been better every season. Sometimes it's been close, sometimes not.

Turn on the TV and it's clear to see who's team this is. O captain, my captain.

Canuck fans will mostly say Hughes.
He dominates the puck every time he steps on the ice.

Other fans will mostly say Pettersson. He's ascended in to the Selke conversation and because he's a forward there some favoritism.
-That and on hf Hughes has been miscast as a poor defender.

stereo types

in comparison to ep his brother jack must be weak defensively by the opinion of canucks fans because he is small

Hughes is an elite OFD but EP is an Elite 2-way Center, hard to vote against him

Hughes has 23 goals, 134 pts in 292 games at ES.

Petersson has 94 goals, 216 pts in 334 games at ES

Hughes is one of the best passers in the league, which is what makes him so prolific on the PP but EP is the Canucks best player IMO

Quinn Hughes has basically become a barometer for evaluating posters who either don't understand hockey or don't actually watch a player enough to form a valid opinion.

I hope you're talking about what I hope you're talking because I am waiting for more people to pick up on this and it takes time to change narratives. Defensive play is not only cross checking in front of the net or in the corners, there's a LOT of aspects. Zone exists (passes/carries) and entry denials are just as important if not more. Recovering the puck quickly and transitioning to offense is the most important thing in hockey because if you are "big and tough" but spend most of your shift defending, then your forwards might not have enough stamina left to create better scoring chances.

Without watching Hughes as much, I am guessing the critics are the same as Erik Karlsson or Thomas Chabot. Quick transition and OZ time is the best way to defend. Many Sens fans are turning against Chabot lately, which is sad but not unusual, starting to look like a Spezza 2.0 situation, like if fighting through ownership, management and coaching problems weren't enough lol

You pick.
Keep telling yourself that, lol

Small one dimemotional defenders aren’t as valuable as two-way centres.

Even Erik Karlsson fans said the same thing during His peak. You’re just trying to convince yourself otherwise.

No you’re just dumb and think because one small offensive defenceman couldn’t play defence then they all can’t play defence.
