Watch Martindale become a serviceable player for Florida, like McDonald in New York.

He was doing really well before getting injured earlier in the year and the coach or GM was raving about his off ice work ethic. His skating needs improvement though.

Kind of disappointed the org gave up on Martindale.

why? The guy was far from being a caonsideration for a call up and was going to be a RFA after this season... We were going to walk away from him after this season anyways...

Pitlick, Horak, Lander will get renewals for sure...

Martindale, Fedun, Abney, C.Hamilton, Miller and Bachman are others needing renewals after this season...
Not sure how many of these we can resign considering we need to add AHL vets to OKC roster AND possibly make room for Moroz, Khaira, Chase, Yakimov etc.

Then kudos for him.

Obviously he wasn't working here.

I think HFOil should concern less about how said players fare on other teams and focus on what is [or isn't] working on our own.

servicable as in what? At the very best he will be S.Mathhias 2.0 .. No way he ever cracks the top 6 for them ..

And on a team like ours we could use any serviceable NHL player that isn't a weak Smurf.

The AHL roster looks sad.

Not saying that Martindale and Nesbitt were world-beaters and losing them was a big loss... but OKC looks like it's on an irreversible downward spiral mirroring the Oilers.

Very little of substance in the pipeline down there.

Lander
Horat
Fedun

That's about it for guys looking even halfway decent and honestly on that entire roster, Fedun is the only guy I could see that deserves an extended look at this point at the NHL level.

Guys like Klefbom, Musil, Kessy, Ewanyk, CHamilton all having uninspiring AHL seasons. Sure they are all still young but really it would be nice to have a little more from at least 1 of them to give some hope for the future.

Maybe Gernat and Pitlick looking "ok" but really that's it and as a group that OKC roster is looking sadly mediocre.

"Edmonton Oilers ‏@EdmontonOilers 10m

#Oilers acquire forwards Steve Pinizzotto and Jack Combs from @FlaPanthers in exchange for forwards Ryan Martindale and Derek Nesbitt.

Looks like it's:
Pinizzotto and Combs
for
Nesbitt and Martindale

Another beauty 3rd round pick (Martindale) wasted. Our scouting has been so bad for too long. Not impressed at all.
Name a team that has hit mutiple 3rd round picks? Its not that easy

Has losing made this fanbase dumb?

"Maybe it's one of their big young centers in Barkov or Bjugstad?"

"Hopefully Gagner is going the other way"?

C'mon HFOil. You're better than that. This is a minor league deal with minor league assets. Florida won't be giving us Barkov, Bjugstad, Matthias, or Kulikov. Minor league deals happen all the time. They don't hurt an organization. They're not usually a sign of someone else, nor to deals with minor league players "get bigger." It's a deal for OKC, and that's all it is.

It isn't going to destroy the franchise, nor does it mean that the organization is inept or blind to the issues on the big club.

Some of you expect way too much.

Much love for this post. Honestly, HF Oil feels like a drawer full of windup toys that do the exact same thing in each situation.

And VandeVelde in Philly, who's currently their 4th line C. This team just can't develop players.

Lander will probably be the next to go, and I think he'll end up being a useful player for someone.

What are we suppose to do never give up on any prospect because one day they might become a 4th liner on a crap team? Not like he went out and did well in PIT. He actually had a bad year if you compare his AHL numbers the year he left to the year he played in WBS. Went from 40G to 14G.

CVV playing on Philly's 4th line is just sad. He's in no way an NHL calibre player

He played what a dozen games for PHI? It's a 4th line center role, guys are always popping up out of no where to be 4th liners. He was always talked of as a non-flashy player that played a checking role well and that he would probably play the exact same game if he made it to the NHL.

13 so far. Who cares what role he plays? He was the worst player on the ice when he was here.

So no word on Penozzotti joining the team? I guess this is strictly an AHL move then?

Straight AHL deal, I would guess they evaluated Martindale internally and decided to move on and turned him into some asset. I thought he was playing well recently though? So it's a headscratcher, but oh well. Nothing this organization does is a surprise anymore, is it?

From a strictly AHL standpoint, the Barons are running Lander - Acton - Stretch - Ewanyk. Pitlick and Horak can play center, but they're seemingly being developed as wingers.

Acton they're trying to build an offensive game to contribute to a 4th line NHL role. Lander and Ewanyk are where I see them on an AHL depth chart. Yakimov and Khaira are likely OKC bound next season which clutters up the middle. Martindale had his at bats and didn't earn a spot in the next year lineup.
