He's not a defensive center.

That said, in spite of his terrible taste in music, I wish him well. Y'know, until he plays the Canucks.

Dude used to always put up points against the B's.

Didn't realize he had long covid, hopefully he can make a comeback and provide the Oilers some depth

He’ll score on a breakaway or in the shoutout. Other than that, he’s an average player. Not great, but not terrible - just average.

Good for Brandon. For a former mid 1st round pick with tons of injuries, he has done pretty good for himself. Pretty tough career though from a team standpoint.

If he gets a contract, and plays games.

He’ll play a string of like 20 games for instance and you won’t he hear his name said by the announcers once.

I’ve never seen a guy who gets ice time and plays games but you forget that he is actually on the roster.

For a team with McDavid and Draisaitl that's not the worst thing to have. It's actually pretty damn good. The more ice you can take from those two that doesn't result in a puck in the back of the net, the better they can dominate when they are on the ice.

I'm rooting for the guy.

Good for him trying to get back into hockey after having some health issues. Hopefully he can stick it out and get a contract from Edmonton or somewhere else.

Likely doesn't stick, but respect the guy for trying to come back to the game he loves.

No risk move for Edmonton...but it's hard to see him being particularly useful after all that time off with long covid. Can't imagine his conditioning is where it needs to be. Maybe there's some utility there as a 4th line RH faceoff specialist who wins a draw and immediately gtfo the ice or something.

Glad to hear he's at least apparently feeling well enough to attempt to make a go of it again though. Always thought he caught a lot more flak that he really deserved from Canucks fans due to his contract and miscast role as a de facto #2C, which he's never been capable of holding down because he's a terrible passer with crazy tunnel vision. But when he had his wheels going, he was a solid defensive center who was good for 15-20G created largely on his own out of thin air off the rush and jumping on broken plays. Didn't really need top offensive linemates or minutes to chip in his goals, which is a valuable ability.

Good for him for trying but I can't imagine him sticking with a team that has cup aspirations. He was basically an empty sweater when he played for the pens and was exceptionally weak on the puck. And this was when he was young and healthy.

Glad to see him trying for a comeback..Good guy...Before the covid, he was fairly injury prone, most notably having groin issues, which seemed to shelve him every year.

If he isn't expected to be your third line center, your team is in good shape. He was overused in Van, but he could be a decent 4th liner who can PK, win faceoffs, and put the puck in the net.

my most indelible sutter memory, beyond his bullying of prospects and young players (see the “big balls” comment upthread), is his complete inability to clear the zone. just an utterly worthless player who much of his last 2-3 years here was a liability, even as a fourth line plug.

A tryout on one of the hottest teams coming into the league? Why not. Oilers need defensive centers that can win faceoffs. A good opportunity for him.
Not sure he will be good 2 years without playing a game at his level. Also he is not a fast skaters

It isnt a lack of interest that's stopping Hagelin, it's a lack of the pupil in his eye never being able to dilate ever again and a severe lack of vision, that eye got MAJORLY f***ed up bad and any kind of injury to it again and he may have to have it removed, hell he almost had to get it removed to begin with.
Same with Klefbom. His shoulder was destroyed. He is lucky he can pick up his kids.
