Earthquake jolts one of earth's rarest fish, causing them to start spawning in Death Valley

So, that big quake in Alaska? Caused a Seismic seiche in Death Valley.
The phenomenon that struck their small Death Valley habitat is known as a seismic seiche. A seiche occurs when water oscillates from one side to another of a semi- or fully enclosed body of water, like a lake or bay. They're most commonly caused by strong winds or dramatic changes in atmospheric pressure, but they can also be caused by seismic waves, like this particular seiche.

So that started the rare, endangered pup fish to spawn.

Cause and effect.
