That Ottawa trade for Debrincat seems to have had a major effect on our draft.

They traded picks just ahead of our 1st and 2nd round picks. Rumor was that they may have been leaning Kasper and Dylan James is from their college farm system and fits their archetype. Neither may have been there had they not made that trade.

Also, which goalie are we drafting in the 7th?

I feel like them and Florida stick the most to actual draft rankings and very rarely reach. Seems to work for them.

Has it?

Florida Panthers Draft History at hockeydb.com
58 games played by their players picked in the 2nd round or later from 2017.

Carolina Hurricanes Draft History at hockeydb.com
2 players from 2017 that are 4th liners. Jack Drury looks like a player from the 2019 draft but what else am I missing? Who else from their last 5 drafts are going to be players?

Hoping for Connor Kurth or Logan Morrison with our next pick.

I’m a complete moron when it comes to scouting thankfully because other than Kasper I’m very underwhelmed with this draft. It’s a good thing because I’m rarely right on my picks

I think Kasper, James and Buchelnikov all have good upside but after that? Nothing too impressive or outlandish. That's ok though. This is a kind of weak draft anyway.

It's always hard to get excited for big, stay-at-home type defensemen. They are the antithesis of what upside looks like, but just give them 3 years and we will see what comes of it.

Amadeus Lombardi seems to have some fans, so I'd keep him in the good upside bucket. Maybe a bit of a longer shot.

This is just an example of how you don't need to overreact on day 2. This day 2 in particular is kind of blind hope as it is with these kids playing through Covid most of their juniors aged career.

They're definitely going after some name game.
