As crazy as it may sound, if they can keep ahead of the teams behind them, they only need to win 1 more game than either Tampa or Philly from now until the end of the year to secure a playoff spot.
I believe technically they have to win 4 more games than either Tampa or Philly from here on out.

They need to win all 3 games in hand to tie Tampa in points AND have an extra point and/or tie-breaker. This is also making the big assumption that Tampa plays the same exact way they have been all year. Ditto for Philly.

Strange way of looking at it. What games do you consider to be the games in hand? The bottom line is that to finish ahead of TB, they have to get at least 6 more points than them the rest of the way. And they have three more games than TB to do it in. Also, TB is playing .500 hockey since the all star break. Continue at this pace and they'll barely break 90 points.

Stop the scoreboard watching!!!

Take care of business and don't worry about what you can't control. Just play like the last 3 games and go on a roll.

Works in life too . . .

You have a scoreboard in your life? That must be really distracting!

:sarcasm:

Does this mean that making the playoffs could be a good thing? Crazy... but okay.

96 points gets you in like 95% of the time.....

30 points in 22 games

14-6-2 is what you're looking at.

Since the lockout (04/05) Only 3 teams have missed with 96.

Canadiens 18/19 96
Panthers 17/18 96
Bruins 14/15 96
28 points in 21 games

14-7
13-6-2
12-5-4
11-4-6

Normally I would throw out the "10-4-6", but, we do like OT.

It used to drive me crazy when Trots and Lambert would get a lead and go into a defensive shell. It's like you're inviting me opponent in.

Roy said that they won't be doing that anymore.

YES! YES! YES!

If we beat Anaheim we’ll be in the first wildcard spot which will put us in line for a first round matchup with.. the rangers
Sorry, no bueno. Beat Anaheim, and even if Tampa and Detroit both lose on Saturday, First wildcard? Still lose tiebreaker.

I mean, sure but we will have the same amount of points and games in hand. Already in the second spot by point percentage

Funny how if we win 5 in a row and the teams ahead of us lose some (eg., DET has lost their last 4 games), all of a sudden the "we need to go 14-5-2 the rest of the way" talk becomes irrelevant and what we do the next game is all that matters. :)
