If they're out round one, this summer there has to be big changes.

Even if you wait for Tavares to leave after next year, it's still 30M on 3 forwards. But they have to wait another year for that to happen.

If they're smart (and that's definitely an if), they'll let Tavares walk when his contract is off the books and they'll trade either Marner or Nylander if they can get a good return and re-structure the team.

$40 mil+ on four forwards doesn't work when your offense continually fails to score enough in the playoffs and you can't spend enough on defense and/or goaltending to compensate.

After they lost to CLB years ago, I remember saying they need more out of their top four forwards if they're going to pay them that much and that never changes. At least Nylander can score a few goals in the playoffs and he had the lowest cap hit of the four. Expectations should be higher for him now.

They should consider it. They need at least one top guy, preferably more, to have the stomach for this time of year.

I think it depends a lot on how the games play out and what the market ends up like. But if they flame out, I think they’ll at least heavily consider it.

There is talk of this every year. Even the pundits talk about how it is do or die. Then it is epic back tracking once the day actually comes. Everyone knows that management will always want to keep these guys

The big move will be a coaching change

Yeah only untouchables would be Matthews and Reilly, get rid of everyone else one way or another and build a team with a defensive identity. What f***ing year is it. Looks like 2017 for this group.

True. But the Leafs have such wildly spectacular collapses that it warrants the talk. IMO they should have made big changes a long time ago.

Agreed that Keefe will be the first casualty though.

Marner and Matthew's didn't do much in tonight's game. Bruins vs Leafs could be a short series.
