Do goalies have a stat equiv. to MLB's Earned Runs Against (vs unearned)?

Its a 3-1, cross ice pass, top shelf, goalie has no shot. It would be cool if there was a casual fan statistic if goalies had a GAA and an EGAA (earned) so goals like the above didn't count.

Is there something like this?

Hockey doesn't have good stats for anything because the NHL is too lazy to have a panel of judges figure out useful stats for each game. If we had a panel of judges, we could have tons of interesting team and individual stats.

IMO a good start with that stat would be with break-away goals. A break-away goal should be an un- earned goal for the goalie. If a team allows a break-away that's on them not the goalie. It shouldn't happen as much as it does to be quite honest. Playing 5 on 5 and some games it's break-away central because of how horrendous the D is. Or you could have it pretty basic and have it as any odd man rush goal is an un-earned goal and a 5 on 5 goal as an earned goal. It would really show how bad a team's D is/how bad or how good the goalie is

Goalies still have about a 75% chance of saving those shots. Why should they get a pass on it? They SHOULD make that save 3/4 times.

I don't think there is anyway to properly judge these "no chance" events for goaltenders. MAF would have a ton of them, but it's "not his fault" that he flopped around and didn't put himself in position to make the save?

Goaltending seems to have decent stats to begin with. The only thing missing is SV% relative to shot location IMO, and offensive player location (screens).

separating 5vs5 save% and overall save% is pretty important. extra skater already does that.

chris boyle on sportsnet is doing something really cool called the Shot Quality Project. he splits shots into 4 categories. might be what you're looking for.

Breakaway goals should still be earned. Maybe a puck deflecting off one of the goalie's teammates should be unearned.

Yeah I agree breakaways would still be earned - deflections off own teammates would be a good unearned start, I think possibly even any deflection/tip-in... It's pure luck at that point usually if its stopped or not.
Another one which would require actual notation and judgement would be when a defender on an odd-man rush challenges the shooter rather than taking the passing lane, and it's the shot off the pass that goes in. Not much a goalie can do there.

A fundamental flaw is that the positions are not that similar.

While both positions do have the most impact on team defence, that is where the similarities stop.

A goaltender's sole objective is to keep the puck out of the net by any mean's necessary. Anything else (starting a rush) is a bonus.

A pitcher's job is to prevent batters from reaching base. If a batter reaches base through means outside of a pitcher's control (shortstop throws ball over the first baseman's head) then that runner is not on him.

It would be impossible to create an equivalent stat for a goaltender because there is no equivalent role.

But if a puck deflects off the goalie's teammate, it wasn't his fault and there was nothing he could have done. That should show somewhere.
