Pretty expensive but makes sense if Severson is at 6.25mil and Gavrikov is at 5.9mil. Hes better than both guys. Going to depend on the term with him.

I could see $8M only if he gets like a 2 year term. I feel like for the player to get that much AAV he has to take a more team-friendly term. More than likely he asks for $8M and ends up getting around $7M. He is a stud, although he turns 32 next month. You have to be really careful with term. Often these FA deals are lost because the team will go 6 or so years of term to bring down the AAV.

He's also 32 years old this summer.

I can't see him getting 8M. Even 7M+ seems high. I'm assuming like 5 years X 6.5M.

Reports at the trade deadline were than the Caps were ok with Orlov's desired AAV on a possible extension, but wanted it over a shorter term than he was seeking. (No idea if the AAV in question at the time was $8M.)

Guys been seriously undervalued his who career. I think he can get close to that.

Bruins fans may be able to refute this but haven’t there been some rumblings within parts of the B’s organization that some would prefer to keep Orlov over Lindholm?

I feel like I'm stuck at prices from like 3-4 years ago. When did Orlov become an $8M defenceman? That's legit #1D money for a guy who played second fiddle to Carlson for basically his whole career.
He’s been a better defenseman than Carlson for some time. He’s averaged over a minute more per game at even strength with the Caps than Carlson over the last four seasons. Almost two minutes more per game than Carlson this last season before getting dealt.

Orlov has actually been much better all around D man than Carlson for several years now, he just doesn't have the goal and assist stats JC74 does in large part due to how they were used.

As an UFA, I think he could come near that. GMs have done a lot more for a lot less.

It's the term that'll kill this contract though. Anything over like 4 years will be a buyout candidate.
