Jaskin plays a down-low game facing the net. He is not a crease hog, but can be disruptive in the crease because of his size. He is a large net crasher and can do what Brouwer did for the team if he works on his skating. His playoff performance was encouraging.

It wasn't just his playoff performance. He played like he did in the playoffs most the year. Playoffs was a small sample size, so his point per game totals are inflated vs the regular season. But all year long he was very solid on the forecheck, the boards, possession and defense. He's create opportunities but he was just severely snake-bitten. Its a matter of perception. Coming into the season we all had high hopes for him. He doesn't score and we get down on him. Then he makes mistakes and they are compounded by our disappointment. So Blues fans write him off and he gets relegated to the bench for the playoffs. Our perception of him is at its lowest. Then he comes in, plays by and large the same game, gets a bounce to his stick for a goal instead of away from it, and we are encouraged again even though his game has been fairly consistent.

Not calling you out on this ChicagoBlues, as its something we all do. Plus you are right, he still has a lot to work on, especially his skating, to reach his full potential. But he still has potential. With some work, some bounces, and some confidence, he can be a solid 2nd or third liner. He already showed he works as a good 4th liner too.

If Backes could improve his skating significantly, so can Jaškin, IF he's willing to put in lots of effort.

If we lose Backes/Brouwer, Bergy and Jaskin gotta be the guys who take over being that guy who is in front of the net.

I didn't think you were calling me out on anything. :) We're mostly on the same page. Good post.
