I think the 7 FBS schools in California should add NCAA DI Hockey. All seven schools would (or will) have arenas ready to go:
Cal - Oakland Coliseum Arena
Stanford - SAP Center
UCLA - Honda Center
USC - Long Beach Arena
Fresno State - Save Mart Center (only one on-campus)
San Diego State - Pechanga Arena
San Jose State - New Arena at Sharks Practice Facility (when it gets completed; it will also host the Barracuda)
The biggest issues are program funding and Title IX issues. Facility infrastructure is a more minor concern compared with those two factors.
Well, when the Kings won two Stanley Cups in the previous decade, hockey's popularity in California exploded. The ECHL presence ended up being replaced with an AHL presence, and NCAA D-I men's ice hockey is the natural next step.
The Pac-12 schools in the state could certainly fund D-I hockey and a new women's sport since they are among the more popular college teams in the country, and with popularity comes wealth.

Pac 12 hockey will never happen, Z..... IT'S HARD ENOUGH keeping pro hockey alive in CA......YOU want to throw in a Gonzaga, LMU, yes Loyola CAWell, when the Kings won two Stanley Cups in the previous decade, hockey's popularity in California exploded. I agree with what you are getting at but I think colleges are a different ball game in the sense that you have a large amount of people with school ties and on campus who want something to do, adds pride for the school and so on. Not saying it is in any way likely but the equation is not the same as it is for pro hockey. It is more realistic than any time in historyPac 12 hockey will never happen, Z..... is the Pac 12 willing to add 25 more sports to create a conference, like the Big 10 did in essentially overriding both the WCHA/CCHAI agree with what you are getting at but I think colleges are a different ball game in the sense that you have a large amount of people with school ties and on campus who want something to do, adds pride for the school and so on. Concerns over COVID-19

TROY — The RPI men’s hockey team has home-ice advantage for this weekend’s ECAC Hockey Tournament best-of-three quarterfinal series against Harvard.
But there won’t be any cheering from the crowd, or the singing of the alma mater during the second intermission.
The college announced Sunday that the Engineers and Crimson will play their games without fans in the stands because of concerns related to COVID-19; RPI cited the two confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the Capital Region.
“The university has been working over the past several days to come up with protocol and policies for a pandemic situation,” RPI athletic director Lee McElroy said in a press conference Sunday afternoon at Houston Field House. “What led to the decision with regard to the ECAC quarterfinals were the two confirmed cases of coronavirus that were reported [Saturday] at 10 a.m.” ...
