There's something to be said about gaining playoff experience for the kids.

I think you have to balance that vs what you'd get for Severson and how Nemec looks at the deadline.

Paying maybe two 2nds or a single 1st for a playoff appearance is about fair for our position. We did this with Shero and the 2017 team by picking up Grabner and Maroon. But that team had older components

The team is the second or third youngest roster in the league, still under 26. With a 19yo Luke Hughes and eventually 19 yo Simon Nemec making the club.

Theres no need to force a playof appearance this year just to then likely miss the following year when we have teo 20yo's in their rookie years playing 14+ a night for us. Losing Graves' value is fair for a playoff appearance. But Severson on top of that? Thats just egregious IMO and is just not acceptable for a team barely having broken out into its prime

Losing two 1sts worth of value for a playoff appearance for a bottom-3 aged team that would be a low seed is blasphemous. I dont see how you can possibly support that notion and want the best future possible

Those picks would be absolutely crucial ELCs for us down the road and what teams in recent memory lost an entire second pairing to free agency??

Also I said let Nemec get half a season in the A to adjust, hes already a 3rd pairing level defenseman. He was a 2nd overall whos played pro since the age I was still scared to talk to girls


Why would Johnsson's contract be fully nulled in terms of NHL AAV on November 1st? Since hes a one-way doesnt his contract only offer minimum+325k relief?

I think the team is at the point where a playoff birth and trying for a “run” is greater than what we could potentially get for Severson. Of course we need all assets possible to improve the team but I think it will all depend how well the team looks at the TDL before we decide what to do with Severson.
IMO - we keep Severson unless we are out of the race .

This isnt the Pacific division, just because our team is coming into its own doesnt mean there isnt an equally young NYR and Carolina, with Washington Pittsburgh always making it and Columbus having bolstered up.

Missing out on near the equivalent of two 1sts to make the playoffs just so fans are appeased is as awful a logic as they come. Is ownership running the team or is Fitzgerald?

Who is to say we get the equivalent to 2 firsts for sure ? And what do we do with those picks? Use them so we can hopefully trade more players off during a playoff race necause people think other teams are stronger?

You've made this logical leap all on your own. I applaud your ability to come up with new handles but trot out th same panic about the future.

I don't care about the division. Go ahead and try to predict what's going to happen in the division, odds are you will be wildly off about at least one team. The Devils have to play the games first. If they're out of the playoff race, yeah go ahead and sell on Severson. If not? It makes no sense to trade him. These players need playoff experience. The team could use another first, sure, but a late first where they're not likely to see any return for 3-4 years? Not a big deal to miss out on one of those, not with all the high picks the Devils have had the last few years.

Logic would assume Severson is the equivalent of trading a first+prospect for a rental RHD. Maybe its OK?

What is bad is trading a first + prospect for a RHD rental and then also trading a 1st or 2nd for another rental.
