Just for the sake of argument: it's cute that Nico is crying in the presser and all that but the man also didn't score much this post-season. Praising him and Meier for doing what a good third liner does while dunking on Bratt is overlooking quite a lot.

I mean, I love the guy, he's become a great captain, he walked the walk in the regular season, has the right attitude, but the hypocrisy from the fans is hilarious to me.

It's all bias induced by the contract talks. The style of play is just an excuse to pile on.

Edit: And I am in no way excusing Bratt's playoffs failures as well.

I maintain that it's dumb to pit players on this team against each other.

The Mercer vs Bratt argument from earlier this week was equally stupid

It's about perception and narratives, not pitting one against the other.

And I love Nico but people were sharpening the knives for Bratt. Only doing what Jack did was going to shut them up, despite it being all of these guys' first serious run.

I would like to know what leverage Bratt lost based in his first ever playoffs?

(I am not counting the cup of coffee in 2018)

@Saugus mentioned that he is now back at square one because of his playoff performance.

Sorry, Saugus. I respect you and all but for my part I don't think that's how it works.

Last season, Bratt was told basically by Fitz to "prove it" in terms of replicating the season he had last season for this season by scoring 70+ points.

(and last I checked, there were no playoffs the previous season so it was a "prove it" thing depending on his REGULAR SEASON numbers)

And he did prove it.

In fact, he not only proved it....he scored 30 GOALS for the first time in his career!

How he did in the playoffs should not have any considerable bearing on contract negotiations imo.

Good thing Bratt isn't in the picture or the Jackals here will get started on him again. :loony:

Every once in awhile, I am reminded of how grateful I am that no one here in HFBoards is the GM.
Are you sure? )

Would be great to sign Bratt for 7.9-8.25 per year. I'm not a big fan of his play off performance, but I like what I saw from him in most part of vs.rangers games and I have a long list of players whom I really don't like in canes series. Its ok, they are gaining experience. (Florida was swept against Tampa with a loud sound of closing piano)

He will sign market reality deal, not "more than Jack/Nico" deal. He is great player/driver. And we need him.
I don't see problems with cap. Even if some players will deserve huge raise and Bratt "isn't good enough" by Devils fan standarts(we saw too much ~ppg players), we can easily trade the player with his production and advanced stats. A lot of gms will kill for a player like Bratt.

Wonder what the injury to Hughes was/is? Ruff said “upper body” post game and that he honestly didn’t think before the game that Jack would be able to play. And that he showed guts just strapping on the skates. Jack himself said “it is what it is.” Sooner or later we may learn exactly what happened.
Devils insiders speculated it was a shoulder / arm injury

Timo is such a weird case. He was starting to find his grove. I think if the Devils played more games he would become more important.

He scored 40 goals only once, and over 70 points only once. What do 30 goal scorers with 50-60 point production make?
