Canucks/Devils series would be so cool! Paul Maurice predicted it for last year.

The Canucks are the only team in the league Marty has a losing record against.

Must be the curse of King Richard Brodeur.

Haha!

I'd have to think with this move yesterday that Lou isn't done, and has something else up his sleeve. Zajac wanting to stay though was a really nice gesture to me. He could have tested the market, and probably gotten more money. Especially if he had a big year.

Wasn't able to post anything here due to internet issues yesterday but....

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

To think that Lou would actually do this....MIND BLOWN!

How long have we all been complaining about Lou's conservative approach when it came to re-signing his own free agents???

Hopefully this shows that Lou will no longer be so passive in the future....

PREPARE FOR 8 YEARS OF SHANNAHAN.......ZAJAC!!!!! WOOOOOOO! :yo:

Wasn`t Zajac voted by his peers as one of the most underrated players in the NHL (Plekanec, Eriksson) a year or two ago?

Yeah. Now let`s argue about <2 years (term) and 500k (salary). Makes sense.

Main board assclowns never disappoint.

I've had a pain free week so I decided to drop in on the Zajac thread on the main board.

Next time, I'll just drop a dumbbell on my left big toe instead.

It's funny because those same main board dopes would be talking about how Lou had lost it if he let Zajac sign the exact same deal somewhere else.

Great deal on all counts... the money and the lenght of the term.

We couldn't afford to lose Zajac, we just couldn't. I don't mind seeing Clarkson bolt elsewhere and I don't see Elias playing for any other team but Zajac was the guy we had to resign.

It was about time we kept one of our important pending UFA.

i think it says something to the clarksons and (in the future) the henriques of the team when zajac signs for 8 years in the blink of an eye. moreso than when a player like kovy signs a long term deal.

Zajac is a smart guy and he get's how this team operates. I can see Clarkson going in the same path as Travis in all honesty.

Too bad Zach didn't view the tradition of this team as a major bonus and I hope he goes threw the "tradition" Minny has been thriving in the past couple of years since rejoining the NHL and that would be missing the playoffs year after year.

At least he'll be able to watch his 2nd BFF (1st being Suter) from his couch when the SCP will get underway. Nothing like the comfort of your own sofa when watching a hockey game ;)

I hear ya.

The whole Minny boy going ome hthing is nothing new. There's are always going to be guys trying to take off when they hit UFA for whatever reasons, personal or monetary. I think in general, most homegrown NJD players want to stick around. They know how Lou does things, and they know they will always have a chance to win.

It's just nice to finally witness one of these signings, been awhile. Had me worried sick.

Another thing about this Zajac signing... It also isn't the middle of the season.

It's not completely out of character. While it is unusual to see an early extension, it's balanced by that fact.

Yep this is correct. If anything, the lockout may have helped with this. I would bet a piece of candy that Zajac's agent was doing some activity for this during the lockout, although no one could ever admit to it.

Hey guys, let`s just wait until Ryan, JVR, Carlson, Palmieri and Gaudreau hit UFA. They will all want to come to NJ. We`ll get the last laugh!

Safe bet, safe bet...

We usually do get random training camp stuff... I guess this kind of counts?

We won't land any of those guys... and we'll go hard after Jim Dowd.

Book it.

The future success of this team seems about 300x more secure now.

Solid D and solid C's to build around. Especially if Josefson can step up his offense and stay healthy. Not to mention our star winger to lean on.

Team feels playoff built to me.

This is what truly makes me confident with the direction the team is going.

Our defense is already built solid and will continue to be as we will have Greene, Fayne, and Larsson under team control for multiple years and Urbom, Gelinas, and Merrill waiting in the pipeline.

We have Zajac locked up completely and along with Henrique and Josefson will have a strong trio anchoring the middle down for the at least the next 3/4 years.

Wingers and goalies will be much easier to worry about with the strong foundation in place as is.
