I feel like Ruff might be pressing on Jack a wee bit to hard, this is the Even Strength ice time since December 8th. And remember we play a very high tempo system that’s demanding both physically & mentally.

Carolina actually play a similar system (successfully of course) but they have a lot of depth and they aren’t running any forward ragged. This is their forwards Even Strength.

Missed the game, but the score seemed respectable all things considering and I see the two floaters we apparently need to trade continue to score at incredible rates

But we absolutely need to trade our best star players obviously.

Missed the game, is unaware that Bratt coughed up the puck at the offensive blueline that led to yet another short handed goal for the opposition, which saw Tampa go up by 1 btw, and manages to post a comment that makes absolutely no sense at all.

Keep up the great work lol

Evenly played game, but as per usual got out goaltended again.

Gillies looked even worse when watching the video of that goal than he did in person and he looked f***ing terrible in person.

He stays there frozen after he drops the puck and in the back of the net it goes.

I see a bad goal on that play that desperately needed a save.

Well, actually he made the save. I see a bad goal that should have ended with the first shot, but it didn’t.

Look how he’s frozen on that one and unaware that it’s going in. It’s like time stopped for him. He looked like such a clown on it.

If we didn’t have an AHL goalie maybe that doesn’t turn into a goal, but we have nothing but AHL goalies and the one goalie that isn’t an AHL goalie has sure played like one all year.

I'm fully aware that he froze after making that save, because he thought he had the puck... but turning the puck over at the blueline when everyone's momentum is heading one way, which led to an odd man rush, is borderline suicidal and it cost us big time.

The point being that we shouldn't of been in that situation in the first place if the puck wouldn't of been turned over. I mean, we gave up a penalty shot, which was saved BTW, and an odd man rush on the same 4 minute PP. I mean, we can crap on the goalie all we want but our overall play is just not that of a bubble team, not in the slightess.

This was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen Zacha play. And that’s really saying something.

It’s no shock that it’s also showing up in his underlying numbers, because he was downright offensive on the eyes. I would say he was the worst player on the ice tonight by a bit.

I disagree that this team is not a bubble team with a better goalie and I’ll take that to the grave.

However, the power play was just pathetic and I hope this recent bender isn’t enough to keep Recchi employed past this year. It really shouldn’t be.

If I recall correctly, there was one year Antti Niemi had a ridiculously poor save percentage while the Stars were on the power play. Ruff was the head coach there at the time. I think it’s worth looking into if maybe this is something of a Ruff thing and not so much a Recchi thing.

I don’t see us winning a game before the all star break. I just can’t see it. And if we lose the rest and the first two after the break, which are in Montreal and Ottawa, I gotta wonder if that’s it for Ruff and maybe Recchi too.

If we lose out AND lose the first two coming back from the break to those two teams up there and Ruff survives then there’s almost no chance he doesn’t survive the remainder of the season. If he’s behind the bench in St. Louis on February 10th then he’s here until May 1st.

I’m not really vehemently for the firing of Ruff, but I don’t think he should be here at all for a single game next year. I think it’s already been pre determined that he won’t be the head coach here next season and it’s possible the entire staff including Nas won’t be here either.

This is ridiculous. Fair enough, Jack is clearly durable, but this is pretty scary. Hope that shoulder is holding up.

Ruff and running talent into the ground. It's an iconic duo.

I think I agree. Ruff needs to try and get at least two lines going, and that most likely involves breaking Bratt and Jack up.

Nico is being hung out to dry right now.

Don't you think that'd be "hanging up Jack to dry" now haha? I know Jack can carry a line, but I haven't been impressed with Rango recently, especially considering that he's played a lot with Bratt/Hughes and hasn't produced that much. I'd kind of like to see Mercer on jack's wing if we want to split the "dynamic duo". Do something like this:

Zacha-Nico-Bratt
Bastian-Hughes-Mercer
Mango-Rango-Tatar
Vesey-McLeod/Boqvist-Kuok

or

Bastian-Nico-Bratt
Zacha-Hughes-Mercer

with the same bottom 6.

Jack is mode capable of generating offense out of nothing then Nico, plus Yegor has been OK.

Nico needs help. Zacha and Bastian were no where near good enough for him.

Hughes was the most noticeable and dynamic player on the ice last night for both teams. It was notable, watching the Tampa feed, how he's become a star draw, the guy the other crowd wants to see, the guy everyone talks about. They don't call it the "show" for nothing. He's the draw, a person who is and will be selling tickets and for whom people tune in to see.

From that point of view, the shot of Ruff coaching him up in the 3d was instructive. I mean Ruff drawing something up and leaning over him between shifts on the bench. It's that Ruff's main job here with an eye to the future has always been to develop Hughes. And he's doing a splendid job of it.

Also, where Bratt took out Hedman at the end of the game, behind the play, and Hedman was so livid . . . could that have been payback for Hedman's attempt to nail Jack along the boards earlier, where Jack barely squeezed through and evaded. Am I imagining that?

One other note: amazing game by Sergachev for Tampa. He single handedly foiled us half a dozen times.

Maybe, just maybe... the problem is Nico?

I agree that his wingers have been poor, but at some point dude needs to produce himself right?

No you're not imagining it.

Bratt's feisty-ness has increased along with his level of play apparently.

I think he's thinking "Well...no one gave two s--ts when Jack almost got hurt again....so...*UNICORN-GOON-MODE....ACTIVATE!*"

Eh let him stretch Jack out a little, there’s no playoffs to save him for and he already missed like 20 games anyway, with other stops and starts to the season. He’s gonna have to play those minutes in full seasons down the road unless we actually get a deep enough team to manage minutes a la Elias playing like 16 minutes a game in his MVP caliber season. Severson seems to be thriving with more time, and he’s always been durable - might as well see now if he can handle it long-term before we have to make a decision on his next contract.

Before this losing streak the past 3 games where he has gone pointless, Nico was coming off a stretch of 12 points in his past 14 games (6 G, 6 A). Zacha has 2 goals and 6 points in his last 22 games while also being a -15 (I know, plus/minus in 2022 is silly but when it's that stark of a difference, it's worth noting).

I'm not a Zacha detractor but he has been wholly disappointing for nearly 2 months now. If he is not scoring, he is barely noticeable if noticeable at all.

Nico has been much more productive than him as of late. It's clear that he is capable of driving his own line, he has shown that ability the past two months as he has started to play some of the best hockey of his career. The problem is that we just don't have enough options to put consistent lines together the way we're currently running. Putting Jack and Bratt aside, Sharangovich has 1 point in his past 5 games, Tatar is now pointless in his last 7, Vesey who had been playing with Nico is pointless in his last 6, Johnsson has gone pointless in 13 of his last 15 games.

Last night was Bastian's first game getting pushed up the lineup aside from PP time and I don't mind giving it a try because it's a different dynamic. Even factoring in his recent production, much of it has come as a result of being in his PP role where half his points (6 in the past 12 games) have come on the PP.

It's been beaten to death here but we need better wingers. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Mercer a run at Nico's wing as others have mentioned because his style of play can only benefit from that.

id put tatar with nico and bastian, at least tatar tries to get the puck to the net and makes things happen. zacha is just kind of there. kills me that he has all the tools, a 6'3 body, speed and an above average shot and he doesn't use any of them effectively
