I agree he’s been good, but there are some concerning signs. His shot rate is dipping and it looks like he won’t ever be a good pp player

I agree on both of those points and if that was where the bitching was coming from then sure. It's not what the complaining is about though. The PP stuff has always been like the only thing that has concerned me because it's the main thing that'll hold back his overall production. He's been a really bad PKer so far but I do think he can become a good player there and if he's good on the PK I can let the PP stuff slide. I also find it hard to hold our current PP against anyone because the coaching is just brutal and they generate nothing regardless of personnel. I need to see him on a competent PP with talent first before I'm sure he's just not good at it. I don't know why the shot rates have slipped.

He was really bad defensively last year as well. I have no doubts his offense will bounce back but him ever being able to hold his own defensively is still up in the air

He was not at all 'very bad defensively'. Any of his badness came from the Severson pairing.

He played 2-on-1s better than any defenseman we had. He has better stickwork than most of our D corps.

He is undersized and he was a rookie, and he's prone to the occasional giveaway when he is contributing offensively, but he has always been very good at defending.

Yeah no. Ty was very bad defensively last year. With his size and skating he might not ever be good defensively. The hope should be he's at least competent one day

Again, the occasional giveaways aside - he'd be fine defensively if not paired with a partner who wasn't braindead.

Ty Smith hasn’t even played 82 games yet. Too early to write him off. I also wouldn’t be opposed to sitting him as he is still essentially a rookie.
