Who would be a Devil if Lou forfeited our 2012 first rounder for the Kovalchuk cap circumvention penalty?
We probably end up with Curtis Joseph and Rod Brind'Amour instead of Stevens.what if
draft kidd instead of marty
Haha you put a lot of thought into this!Well for starters we won't draft Matteau, thank God
The 2013 season stays almost exactly the same, and the Schneider trade still goes down
We would have drafted 11th in 2014. The players taken within 10 picks of us were Fiala, Perlini, Vrana, Honka, Larkin, Milano, Sanheim, Tuch, DeAngelo, Schmaltz. We most likely would have taken one of them. Lets say we take Dylan Larkin
The rest of the picks up to Dylan Larkin stay the same, until Detroit has to take someone else. Detroit ends up taking Sonny Milano, and a couple of picks here and there are changed for the rest of the 1st round and early 2nd
For the most part, everything stays the same for the rest of the draft, with nothing else big happening
Lou and Conte still leave due to the horridness of the team
The Devils continue to stink, but with the progression of Dylan Larkin going beautifully, the Devils decide, for some reason at the 2015 draft, to select another defenseman. They pick Provorov, and Philly ends up picking Zacha (Thus the hf debate continues). Because of this, the Devils still trade for Palmieri because they still need a ton of offensive help
Larkin finally jumps into the NHL, and has a beast rookie year, launching the Devils from the 11th position in the draft to the 14th, barely missing the playoffs by one point. With Detroit not having Larkin anymore, they fall down and end their playoff streak, having the 10th position in the draft. Boston jumps into the playoffs, and do surprisingly well, reaching the conference finals and moving up to the 27th spot in the draft
Detroit management starts to go crazy, and the Devils then are able to move up in the draft for taking on the Datsyuk contract, only having to give up their 14th overall pick to get Datsyuk and the 10th
At the draft, the Devils draft Tyson Jost, and Colorado, who got the 11th pick, takes McLeod, thinking his speed will help their team in the long run. Knowing that Bastian is McLeod's teammate, Colorado then takes him with their 2nd round pick, thinking they have insta-chemistry, so with the 44th pick, the Devils draft Boris Katchouk. The rest of the draft then stays the same.
Provorov decides he is ready for the NHL this year, and jumps right in for the 2016-17 season. Larkin absolutely lights the season on fire with Hall on his wing, each one of them scoring 70 points, but with a lack of depth and an injury to Cory Schneider, they finish 13th worst in the league. Detroit comes in 2nd to last in the league, pushing Arizona to the 5th spot in the draft lottery.
At the draft lottery, Arizona, who has the 5th best odds to get the #1 pick, gets #1, and NJ, who has the 13th best odds for a lottery spot, gets #2
At the draft, Arizona selects Nolan Patrick 1st overall, as they had just previously selected Keller with their first overall last year, and the Devils still draft Nico Hischier.
The rest of the draft plays out for the most part the same, though the Mueller trade never happens because they know that they will sign Shattenkirk in the offseason, as he believes that the Devils will be contenders sooner for a longer period of time than the Rags. They draft Joni Ikonen in the 2nd round and still draft Marian Studenic, just with their 4th rounder rather than the 5th they acquire from San Jose
Detroit fans going insane at the fact that they drafted Michael Rasmussen at #5.
In the offseason, their team seems suddenly much more appealing. They end up signing Shatty to a 4 year, 26.6M contract. The MoJo trade still happens as they still have a lot of cap space. Cammalleri gets bought out along with DSP still. Boyle signs, but Stafford doesn't. Hayes signs as a 13th forward
The final lineup the Devils have going into the 2017-18 season ends up being
Hall - Larkin - Bratt
MoJo - Hischier - Palmieri
Henrique - Zajac - Jost
Gibbons - Boyle - Coleman
Hayes, Wood
Greene - Shatty
Provorov - Severson
Butcher - Santini
Schneider
Kinkaid

Haha thanks. I kinda got a little bit bored so I decided to write that. Happy you enjoyed itHaha you put a lot of thought into this!
What happens if Brent Sutter didn’t feel the need to sell the **** out and party like it was 2003, when he decided to play the **** out of Maddolfo in game 7 of 2009?
This one is really gonna sting but.... what if they called offsides on that Adam Foote goal in the 1st period of game 6 in 2001? That was a deflating goal and just took the wind out of our sails. Killed all momentum and the game was over right then and there. It’s been argued that this was offside.
What if we drafted the logical choice in John Carlson instead of going for some midget ****ing winger when our #1 need BY FAR was defense...
Who would be a Devil if Lou forfeited our 2012 first rounder for the Kovalchuk cap circumvention penalty?
Devils never sign Kovalchuk. Would be a fun one.
Why start there? How about we never traded for Kovalchuk that cost the forfeiture in the first place?
Parise is resigned in 2010 for 48 million for 6 years, Oduya and Martin remain. Jagr is signed 2013 the Devils win the cup in 2013 and Langenbrunner retires a devil as the captain of the team.

Eh Parise was likely a goner regardless of Kovy. He was going home.
Explain? i wasn't around in 84 lolSurprised nobody's brought up the original what-if/alternate history - whether we got Mario the way we should have in 1984.
Pittsburgh tanked and cheated us out of 1st overall.Explain? i wasn't around in 84 lol
Penguins tanked, like on purpose. There's already been a few documentaries on this. This was like a PLANNED and perfectly calculated and executed tank job. I remember the GM would come downstairs a few times, after a 1st or 2nd period where the team was either tied/winning or not losing bad enough, and I think he even demanded the coach put in some jabroni goaltender or give tons of ice time to the bums on the team, in the event they weren't trailing by enough goals. Just to ensure they didn't ''Accidentally'' win or give themselves a chance to make the game close.Explain? i wasn't around in 84 lol
