Hedberg got to be the best backup you can have in a team

He's the best pure backup in the league in my opinion. Who else can you make a case for? Marty Biron? Haha! Clemmer? Yeah good one!

Before someone says ''Well Vokoun....'' I don't consider Vokoun a backup. If their starter wasn't such a piece of swiss cheese at times, Vokoun would have the starting job elsewhere in the league.

I never really read through GDTs, but I liked what I saw.

One of the better forecheckers, I thought.
Got some PP time and got some nice passes off to keep the play alive.

My thoughts exactly. And if you watch the guy skate, him and Parise's strides are actually a little similar. Haha He had a few chances that were blocked, but I like his energy, work in the corners and dzone play. I want to see more. And one thing is certain, the guy will shoot from anywhere which I like.

Yeah he almost got a shot off in his first shift but the end of the first beat him to it. The shot was from center ice too!

If we could send Matteau back I'd love to scratch Barch, and see what we can do against TB on Thursday. Get Butler, and Yayo on a good line, and see what they can do. I don't mind Barch at all, but do we really need to dress a tough guy to go up against Stammer, Vinny, St Louis and company?

Barch is fine to play in certain situations, but I wish we would either use Matteau or sign Darche and attempt to play 4 lines, sans double shifting.

I don't understand the second B on CBGB.

Simpsons reference?

Some people say Carter, Bernier, Gionta's brother. I don't like that.

I like Carter, Baby Gionta, Bernier, because it tells the line in order of position

I like that better too - especially because S. Gionta has done well enough here to shed the title of just being Brian's brother.

I'm pretty sure he's fought every game he's played? He has only really gotten his ass kicked too. It really pissed me off (since he's always dropping the gloves) but after the fight, it really sparked the gameplay He really stood for a while with Carkner though. That dude is big.

I'd love to see Matteau - Butler - JJ

Kovalchuk is already Josefson's most constant winger, 23 minutes together. Barch and Josefson were on the ice for only 7 minutes as linemates.

On the other hand Josefson is the Devils shutdown center right now. He's the top forward in shorthanded TOI and gets the 2nd highest defensive zone starts % on the team.

No doubt Josefson's defensively gifted.

Sherry Ross named them CBGB in reference to the old music venue in New York City. I think she's the one who coined it for them. The GB did mean Gionta's brother when she explained it.

To me in the playoffs I was saying it was Carter, Bernier, Gionta, Boulton-less.

That's what I'm saying. I'm fine with him against the Rangers, but I don't think it's a prerequisite to play him against the Lightning in particular. I kinda want Matteau to go back for now. I still think he will.

Quick thoughts on the season, thus far, going here because i'm drunk

1) Play Hedberg more. 3 consecutive years he's had a sv% in the mid .910s, Marty hasn't had one since 09-10. Split it even. The difference in sv% is ~2 wins over a 48 game season.

2) We need forwards.

3) PK is solid enough, PP is trash (SEEMS FAMILIAR)

4) I'm glad we still have Zajac

5) Get guys like Cam and Barch off the ice. I don't care who you trade for or what you pay, they are an awful waste of ice time and every time one of them laces up, it hurts this team. If you need guys like that for "toughness" then your team is built incorrectly. This is the year of our lord 13 after 20, get it together.

Missed the game but caught the highlights. I was at the Sabres game unfortunately and missed this one.

Glad to see the Based 4th 3rd 2nd 1st 3rd Line come in when we need them to. I hate to say I called it, but I totally called it: losing Zach's pure offensive presence would be negligible simply due to the fact we're now a 4 line team, and all 4 lines are a legitimate scoring threat.

Glad to see that MOOSE IS LOOSE once again. I love that dude so much <3 <3

I wish Kovy and Patty would start producing, but I know they will eventually.

The penalties need to stop, but I'm glad our PK was able to hold down the fort. Special teams are huge and it's nice to finally get at least one half of them in order.

Love the way the PK bounced back today. Especially the chances we generated on it.

Disagree highly on split it even. If you think Marty plays inconsistent then giving him less time is gonna make him not even inconsistent. Probably not much more than serviceable. He'll have weak rebound control, slow reaction time, he'll be off a lot. He had a 921 save percentage from all star break last year until the playoffs ended. That is when he played the most. You play Moose more, I bet his save percentage goes down.

Moose is conditioned to come off the bench, and give a solid performance. Marty is not. This is why Marty was inconsistent for much of early last season, why he traditionally starts the season rusty, and look at how long it took him to get his act together in 05/06 after sitting out a whole year. He can't play 70+ anymore, but he can play 65 percent of games still.

I've just come to the conclusion that power plays and new jersey do not mix

We've blamed MacLean, Oates, etc for the bad PPs, well guess what? All of the PPs under their watches sucked so what does that say? Our players just aren't getting it done

I just want to see the day when they move the puck on the PP, they're aggressive on the PK and look what its done - whenever its come to the PP, they're more passive

I'm willing to give our PP a little more time. It is in fact the only new system we've had to learn. It is incredibly frustrating to watch sometimes though.

More on Marty, he hasn't been bad this season. He gave up 4 goals in Montreal, but him, and the late game comeback are the only reason we got a point that game. He wasn't as bad as he looked in Pittsburgh. He wasn't good against the Isles I'll give you that. He was one of the main reasons we won our first 3.

I could argue goaltending is one of the main reasons we've gotten OT points/wins. Moose in Boston, and today are another good example.

I'm of the opinion that workload really doesn't significantly impact goalie ability. If you want to attack my Hedberg/Marty comparison, you might be able to make an argument that Hedberg has played weaker opponents, and that may be true to a degree, but if Marty gets better with regular play then play him into the ****ing ground because clearly playing him at 70% hasn't done a ******* thing for us over the past couple years.

Moose (in an admittedly tiny sample size) has been lights out this year.

We are at the point where I legitimately feel safer with him in net.

Not attacking you or saying Hedberg has played weaker opponents. You're comparing Hedberg's save percentage to Marty's last year though. Hedberg did not start half as many games as Marty, and I bet if he did he would have had as low of a save percentage. Was he playing better than Marty early last season when they had the same number of starts? Sure I think that's fair to say that. If Hedberg had started as many games as Marty does he get a 918 save percentage for the year? Doubt it highly.
